Brass Monkey Bringing Nissan GT-R to World Challenge 2010
Big news for US motorsport fans as Brass Monkey Racing has confirmed their entry of two factory backed Nissan R35 GT-Rs into the 2010 World Challenge season. Although a relatively new team, only debuting in 2009, they managed to finish third in the overall Championship standings and with driver Tony Rivera taking victory at rounds at Sebring and Road America in that first season.
While preparation for the car is being compressed into a tight timeline, the guys are confident that the amazing base GT-R performance will benefit them when up against more modified competitors:
“Many of the cars in the series have serious modifications to the engines and drivelines from the stock vehicles … The beauty of the GT-R is that it is an amazing platform to start with and we are able to utilize all of the stock internal components and drivetrain. With the exception of some of the approved series aerodynamic items and an effort to bring the car down to a competitive weight, the car will remain incredibly stock compared to most of our competition.”
– A.J. Brass – Team Owner
The GT-R entrant is the first Nissan backed team since the Sentra SE-R several years back.
Other team sponsors include Tax Masters, Stoptech, Penske Shocks, Southside Performance and Seibon Carbon. SouthSide Performance has received some photos of the car preparation including the roll cage and interior work being done. Looks like top quality stuff.
Can’t wait to see more of the build and the results when the World Challenge kicks off for round one at Streets of St. Petersburg on 26th – 28th of March.
