SuperGT 2010: NISMO Second on Podium for Suzuka 700 Enduro Round 6
Team NISMO were able to recover from a potentially race ending spin to pull off a 2nd place finish for round 6 of the SuperGT Championship series of 2010 last weekend. On the scorching hot Suzuka Circuit, NISMO were able to use pit stops/driver changes effectively and take advantage of the cooling conditions as night came to push the GT-R into second place and keep it there.
Engine and drivetrain issues hampered the HIS ADVAN KONDO Racing and the CALSONIC IMPUL teams race efforts and both teams had to retire early from the race. A dissapointment for both teams, especially team IMPUL who had a good shot at moving up the championship ladder this week.

SuperGT 2010: Season Opener This Weekend at Suzuka for Round 1
The GT500 Nissan R35 GT-R squares off against Honda’s newcomer HSV-10 equipped with an entirely new engine this weekend in the inaugural race for the SuperGT 2010 Championship Season! This race takes us to Suzuka Circuit for the annual Suzuka GT 300km race, a circuit where the R35 version of the GT500 GT-R began it’s outstanding racing career back in 2008. In that year it scored a momentous debut 1st and 2nd place victory. Since then the circuit has been kind to them, winning there again in 2008 during the Pokka 1000km enduro and scoring podium spots in both the 300km and 700km races there in 2009.
Honestly – while I’d love to be able to say I hope for a good clean and fair fight with the Honda’s… I’d rather be honest and say I’d rather see the Honda’s leave the circuit on cranes line this!
Go Nissan!
SuperGT 2010: Suzuka Preseason Testing
SuperGT teams competing in the 2010 championship were given an opportunity to stretch their legs in their 2010 spec cars at Suzuka circuit.
While the HSV-10 was out and about getting all the attention, the GT-R teams are slipping some slight body updates under the radar.
The front fenders are standardizing on the waved single piece design which debuted late in 2009 season on the IMPUL and ADVAN cars. This was never adopted by the Nismo team during the 2009 season but they look to have made the move now.
The rest of the car seems much unchanged except for the return to being car #23 instead of running the championship winner #1 tag.
Should be a very interesting season up against Honda! We’ll keep you guys updated as we have for the past seasons!
Update: We found some updated timing direct from Suzuka circuit. The quickest cars on the track were the 5 Lexus SC430s that ran as quick as 1:53.14 seconds (Petronas Tom’s #1).
Interestingly, Nismo also ran the FIA GT-1 spec Nissan GT-R at Suzuka with Michael Krumm driving. Comparing laptimes between the two reveals just how important the downforce on the GT500 cars really is. The 600hp GT1 car only managing a 2:01:132 behind the 500hp Nismo GT500 car’s 1:54.787.

SuperGT: GT-R’s Biggest Threat in 2010? Honda’s NSX Replacement Spotted
SuperGT 2009 is over and with it is the long career of the GT500 Honda NSX that was a staple of the series for so long. In it’s place, Honda have ressurected the cancelled NSX replacement, and sought a rule exemption to do so, for the 2010 season.
The GT500 class HSV-10 GT will debut in the first race of 2010 but was captured here testing at Suzuka circuit in Japan.
It certainly looks like Honda are well into the development on this car and that it’s an attractive beast. Should be an exciting season opener in March 2010 as the GT-R fights off the newcomer!

SuperGT 2009: Nissan GT-R Podium Finish at Suzuka
Not a dream day for the Nissan GT-R today at Suzuka Circuit for round 2 of the SuperGT 2009 series. Beginning the race on pole the MOTUL Autech #1 Nissan GT-R had a great start and fought hard to keep in front of the Toyotas and eventually began to build a lead.
The rest of the race consisted of MOTUL Autech GT-R leading in front with as much as a 13 second gap while the IMPUL Calsonic #12 GT-R ran a race of consistency in and out of third place.
With five laps remaining, when they seemed almost a sure thing to win, they suffered some trouble and weren’t able to maintain the pace. They were forced to concede the lead to the ZENT Cerumo SC430 which finished the race first. They were able to complete the race finishing in fourth position but were later penalised 27 seconds to result in a heart breaking 11th place finish.
Meanwhile, the IMPUL Calsonic #12 Nissan GT-R finished their consistent race with a third place, a solid points round for them which moves them into fourth position in the championship ranking. Just two weeks until round 3 at Fuji Speedway, let’s hope the GT-R’s get back on top then.
