SSP Transmission Cooler for GTR

Another cool product from South Dakota based SSP is this R Spec Race Transmission Cooler for the R35’s GR6 transmission. The guys at SSP have tried a lot of various solutions on the circuit and finally decided on this three part solution. Originally released earlier in the year, it’s now been re-released at a lower price point with updated availability.

On the track they were able to gather enough data to say that this is the ideal solution for keeping your trans fluid temps in check. During 10 lap sessions in 85 degree heat they saw average fluid temps of 220 – 225 degrees.

The kit comes with everything you need for a quick easy install, is available now and sells for around the $2399 mark including a 1 year warranty on parts. Hit up the link below for contact details for SSP.

The price may be going back up in the new year so check it out soon if this is something you’re looking into…

Albins / SSP Extreme Duty First Gear Upgrade for Nissan GT-R

November 10, 2010 Comments off

Albins SSP First Gear

Boasting more than a 50% improvement in strength over the OEM first gear in the Nissan GT-R’s GR6 transmission is the new Albins / SSP Extreme Duty First Gear Replacement. A bold claim but judging by the press release seems like it might be backed up by the numbers.

It features 40% more tooth width/contact area than the stock items, thicker shaft, “ground” tooth profile that offers profile protection and billet from proprietory high strength alloy. Albins specially treat each gearset after manufacturing to improve strength further so they say they’re good to 1000hp.

The first gear sets are designed as direct replacements and should not require any additional parts to get up and running. They’re priced at $2199.

Also from Albins / SSP is a new Final Drive package. Designed to allow big power GT-R’s to increase top speed to around ~214mph it’s great for those interested in standing mile comps and the like.

Other gearsets and ratios are planned soon so keep an eye out and check the following websites for the full details…

More and more options for cooling off your GT-Rs GR6 DCT are making their way to market every month it seems but there’s been some quiet murmurs amongst owners that some aren’t performing quite as expected. The kit includes a high quality Setrab core fed by a thermostat controlled pump, and a billet extended DCT oil pan that effectively increases transmission fluid volume.

Looking at availability starting June 7th, pre orders up now and the price is $2499.

SSP To Build 6061 Billet GR6 Transmission Cases for Nissan GT-R

May 19, 2010 Comments off

SSP brings some serious new hardware to the table with the finalization of plans to build a billet transmission rear casing for the Nissan GT-R’s GR6 DCT gearbox.

The premise behind building a strengthened casing is multifaceted, I can think of a few obvious reasons to do it. Firstly to prevent losing transmissions due to casing failures. This has occurred in the past when casings crack under high torque loads. Secondly to prevent internal accelerate wear caused by components moving slightly when the casing twists under high torque loads.

This baby has been a long time coming and I remember chatting to SSP about it in Tokyo in 2008! So good on the guys to sticking with it.

The first cases should start cutting this week, expect to see more info soon…

SouthSide Performance’s Biggest Clutch Pack Upgrade Yet

March 18, 2010 Comments off

Being the first to offer clutch upgrades 12 months back in March 2009, SouthSide Performance have continued to develop and innovate in the GT-R aftermarket and are now ready to release their biggest upgrade to the GT-R’s GR6 transmission so far.

This upgrade features a 14 disc upgrade which is claimed capable of supporting up to 1000lbft of torque. This enhanced torque capacity comes in part from the increase in discs over the standard 12 disc OEM clutches.

The upgrade clutch set also comes with Viton brand seals for the OEM clutch basket. The guys at SSP say with the Viton seals replacing the OEM type, the stock clutch basket setup should be good for up to the 1000 lbft mark. So unless you plan to launch the space shuttle into orbit with your car, I think you’ll be fine there.

Hit up the SSP website linked below to get in touch with the guys if you have any more questions, or post them up over on NAGTROC where they check in daily…

Nissan GT-R Quarter Mile Record Falls Again

March 11, 2010 Comments off

It’s been a while now but the previous quarter mile record (at an officially sanctioned drag strip that is) of 10.31 @ 131mph was destined to fall and fall it has! The GT-R nudges its way ever closer to the 9 second mark thanks to SSP, who built the car, and Jack Cecil from HP Logic who tuned it, by running a 10.236 @ 136.02 mph in Florida this week. A video of the pass is below.

On the same night the guys also recorded a 10.52 pass at 141.15mph in their white GT-R.

Certainly getting quicker and quicker, will we see 9 seconds sooner rather than later?

SouthSide Performance Transmission Cooler for Nissan GT-R

April 2, 2009 Comments off

ssp-transcooler-001

SouthSide Performance have now backed up their previous transmission strengthening clutch upgrades with a new transmission cooler codenamed the GR6-TC230RS.

It may appear cryptic to you but when you consider that the SSP transmission cooler’s aim is to keep your transmission fluid around the 230 degree F region then it all begins to make sense.

This transmission cooler comes with an extended sump billeted from 6160 aluminum. The sump is is also finned to increase the surface area and thus offer cooling properties by itself. That’s not all though, the transmission fluid is pumped by a high volume pump through a bar and plate cooler. Two electric fans assist air moving through the cooler to assist when outside airflow is minimal.

Priced at $3,199 the SSP transmission cooler should be available around the end of April 2009. The full press release can be read after the jump…

SouthSide Performance Upgrades for Nissan GT-R Clutch Packs

March 29, 2009 Comments off

ssp-clutches-101

It’s been a long product development cycle for SouthSide Performance on these. We originally got word that they were developing them back in October 2008. They’ve made it happen though and today they’ve announced the results of their efforts.

Two different clutch pack products are going on sale, from SSP the first of the two is the SS Clutch Pack. These are the first aftermarket OEM style clutch replacement solution for Nissan GT-R owners. Right now even Nissan will not replace a clutch on the GT-Rs sophisticated GR6 dual-clutch transmission so this is a godsend for anyone who’s modified their car and worn the clutches already. The SS Clutch Pack comes with 12 friction discs that are direct replacements for your factory items.

The second clutch pack is the RS Clutch pack. These have a larger (25% larger) friction surface area in order to handle the big power some of these modified GT-Rs are beginning to make. We’re told these RS Clutch Packs are perfect for those seeking up to 700 hp at the wheels.

Installation is relatively easy, something that can be undertaken at any competent transmission workshop. This is really good news for those who may not have too many R35 experienced techs in their neighborhood.

Price for the SS Clutch Pack is $1,399 with the RS Clutch Pack coming in at $1,599. Both should be ready to ship to customers at the end of April. For more information on ordering them, we urge you to go direct to SouthSide Performance at the link below.
