Sport Auto Magazine Nissan GT-R Supertest Result

Sport Auto Magazine is the German magazine responsible for what many claim is the definitive independent test of a car at the Nurburgring. Manufacturers test their cars to the standards originally set by the Sport Auto Supertest and publish their results accordingly. The Sport Auto Supertest is then eagerly awaited as an independent verification or challenge of those manufacturers claims.

Sport Auto’s Nissan GT-R Supertest is due to be published in the upcoming weeks having recently been run after the first German / Euro specification Nissan GT-R deliveries. At the hands of editor Horst von Saurma (HvS) the GT-R is rumored to have produced a laptime of 7:38.

It’s no news to our readers that Nissan Chief Test Driver Toshio Suzuki has recently managed to push the GT-R to a 7:26.7 laptime, some 11-12 seconds quicker than HvS. Does this call into doubt the validity of Nissan’s claim? I argue the opposite and actually feel this lends more credibility to Nissan’s laptimes.

Given Suzuki-san’s obvious headstart of having developed the car from the beginning and having made hundreds of laps at the ‘Ring in the GT-R it is not a surprise he is quicker than a magazine editor around the same track. Even if that magazine editor is the veteran of hundreds of his own laps in various other cars.

So Sport Auto manages 7:38 but let’s revive a dead horse for some more beating… Porsche has claimed in the past that they could not do better than 7:54, despite proof from Nissan, and have recently backed themselves again and repeated the comment. Any comment from Porsche on this most recent test….. ?

Nissan Nurburgring Test GT-R Model and SpecV Model

Nissan have partnered with Kyosho to bring us this 1/43rd scale 2007 Nissan GT-R Nuburgring test mule model limited edition. It joins a niche with other Nissan GT-R test cars from manufacturer HPI who has a 2007 Nurburgring model and a 2007 Goodwood Festival of Speed model out. The difference here is that the Kyosho item has camo stripes added. There were only 500 of these Kyosho models made available via Nissan’s online store and unfortunately they all sold out already. They may still be had via Japanese online auctions like Yahoo but are now at almost twice the price…

The SpecV models are just about ready and recently GT-R World checked out the Aoshima version at the Shizuoka Hobby Show 2009. This 1/24th scale resin model is due out soon.

Well we had the advanced warning for Porsche back in late April but today Nissan has made it 100% official with a press release and some further details. Too bad for them.

Nissan’s Chief Test Driver Toshio Suzuki has bested even his amazing previous laptimes with a scorching 7:26.7 in a standard base model Nissan GT-R on standard Dunlop run flat summer tires.

Nissan has stated that they also followed the standard testing points used by respected SportAuto Magazine.

2011 GT-R Testing at Nurburgring

Not official yet but, these could be shots of what will become the 2011 Nissan R35 GT-R. These photos were shot on Thursday 23rd of April in Germany while Nissan had the Nordscheife to themselves setting new best laps on the ‘Ring with another, base model, standard 2010 GT-R.

Kislik, our friendly GT-R owner from the Czech Republic snapped these shots of the masked car as it was tested during the same session.

Firstly we asked ourselves why there was a masked, apparently base spec model on the circuit? Some theories were, that this was an older test mule from 2007 or possibly a 2011 SpecM test mule?

What we can say is, as you can see for yourself in the insets above, this GT-R has never seen before modifications to the rear underspoiler. Combine that with the fact that this license plate was previously used on Nissan’s SpecV test car in 2008 I think we can rule out the 2007 test car/old mule theory and infer this is a new car.

Visible changes? Firstly there’s venting on the underspoiler sides. Secondly there appears to be a modification to the diffuser at the rear – It looks to be in two pieces now. This is a 100% crop image so it’s about the most detail we have right now. Let us know if you pick anything different.

Nurburgring 2009: 7:26.7 – Nissan Responds to Porsche’s Comments With Action

nurburgring-20090423-100

Today Porsche have released a Nurburgring lap time for the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3. Even minus the snails, this Porsche can really motor packing 435 hp and one of the most tuned chassis that money can buy. Via Motor Trend today we learned that Andreas Preuninger, Project Manager at Porsche announced that it’s capable of a 7:40 Nordschleife lap.

According to Motor Trend though, he goes further, and takes another swipe at Nissan. Apparently he’s quite focused on this test they performed where they couldn’t manage to get a GT-R under 7:54 at the same track.

Nissan says otherwise, and yesterday in testing, at the ‘Ring one upped themselves again bettering their previous best of 7:27.56 by almost a second to reel off a mind bending 7:26.7. They haven’t stopped either, another testing session is today.

Finer details on the GT-R’s new lap record forthcoming later and we’ll be sure to update you.

UPDATE: As you can see here we have photos of the actual testing session from yesterday thanks to Kislik from NAGTROC. It seems this is the most likely candidate to have set this time as it is the only base model GT-R seen on the circuit yesterday. It’s a base Euro spec GT-R with standard wheels and tires.

PS. I know you’re all hanging out for SpecV lap times but Mizuno-san has not agreed to allow any to be published so far. There are many reasons this could be so hang in there.

Nissan GT-R Laps Nurburgring in 7:27

Nissan’s success at the Nurburgring resounded throughout the motoring world today. With the goal of beating their previous best laptime set in April 2008 achieved the team is seen here celebrating. You can also see in this above photograph the actual car that was used in setting the laptime, a base model, Silver, Japanese specification car shod with SpecV wheels and Dunlop tires.

While the dust was settling on that achievement though the team was back out the next day trying again for a better time in the base model car. It was not to be however and the session was unfortunately rained out before a serious attempt at bettering 7:27.56 could be made.

Check the press release on this from Nissan after the jump…

April 16, 2009 Comments off

gtr-specv-nurburgring-april2009-001

The assault on the Nurburgring for 2009 has begun as promised. After just a few testing days Nissan Chief Test Driver Toshio Suzuki-san has managed to beat his previous best of 7:29 in a base model series II Nissan GT-R with a 7:27.56 lap. The car was standard except for being fitted with optional Nismo ClubSport package Rays 20″ forged aluminium wheels. Dunlop tires were fitted to the Rays wheels.

The laptime was set at 6.52pm on the 15th of April. Ambient temperature was 21 degrees C, track temp was 26 degrees and relative humidity was 25%. They’re back out again today trying to go faster again.

As promised, to keep everything above board, members of the press were in attendance as well as representatives from Porsche Stuttgart.

Why exactly they’re using this combination of wheels and tires we will hope to find out soon. We’re also chasing up some further imagery to show you. As for the photo you see above – it is not the car in question but is a SpecV Nissan GT-R being tested at the Nurburgring earlier this week.
