TAS09: HKS Kansai GT-R Featuring Seibon Dry Carbon Fibre
HKS Kansai’s GT-R bears only a small resemblance to the HKS Kansai GT-R we saw back in Tokyo AutoSalon last year. This year it comes covered in dry carbon fibre from Seibon and lowered with HKS HiperMax III Kansai Spec suspension on the brand new ADVAN Racing RS-D 20″ wheels.
We went over the complete specs down to the nitty gritty in our preview prior to AutoSalon so check that out if you’re interested in every detail. For now though check out our photo gallery after the jump…

The Rise and Fall and Rise Again of the Fastest Nissan GT-R: Part 1
The end of 2008 brings to a close the first chapter in the story of one special Nissan GT-R that we’ve been following since early days here. During the last few months there’s been no other GT-R that could come close to it down the drag strip once it dipped into the mid 10’s consistently.

It was somewhat fitting that on the last track event of 2008 it was to again break it’s own record and ultimately break itself when it’s transmission let go doing what it did best, launching hard at the drag strip.
Over 100 launches using the Nissan GT-R’s now infamous launch control, with approximately 30 of those resulting in a sub-10 second ET, took it’s toll. Recorded on video for posterity you can watch what it feels like to strip first gear in a new GT-R.

HKS Superior Finisher Rear Grille
If you’re using an aftermarket exhaust on the track you might notice after a while your rear grille may start to suffer. Being plastic with a minimal clearance seems to cause some exhausts to run into problems.
Solution? HKS’s Superior Finisher rear grille. Replaces the standard grille with stainless mesh for the low price of 63,000 yen. Not sure if I feel 63,000 yen worth with this one…

Garage Saurus’ Answer to the HKS GT570 Racing Package
Garage Saurus have been tinkering again. Their GT-R demo car never stays together very long while new parts are being released they’re trying them out as soon as their released.
They’ve baulked at the new HKS GT570 Racing kit though. Seeing the price tag of 570,000 yen they’ve decided they can do better cheaper and have proposed the Garage Saurus GT605 kit with a target of 605ps!
Well sure it’s a bit of a harmless poke at HKS but I’m sure the Saurus guys will do a great job. First task was to sort out the boost control and replacing the stock wastegate actuators for some upgraded units is underway.

HKS GT570 Racing Package Dyno’d
The HKS GT570 racing package was unveiled recently in a HKS press release. The kit features exhaust, intake pipe kit, boost controller and wastegate actuators (see previous post for more details) and is said to be good for 570ps. Not sure if HKS mean to say 570ps at the engine but the dyno graphs on their website seem to suggest that reading of 579ps.
Recently Top Racing in Hong Kong got hold of one of these new kits and fitted it up. On the Dyno Dynamics dyno it made 559.2ps at all wheels. Pretty serious power and it sounds great too.

HKS GT570 Kit for R35 GT-R
Interesting development from HKS who have so far remained somewhat quiet on the R35 GT-R parts development. This is their upcoming GT570 kit, so named as it is designed to net 570 ps from your GT-R once installed and setup right.
The kit comes with the following from HKS:
- HKS aluminium hard pipe kit for R35 GT-R
- HKS silicon hose joiners
- HKS wastegate actuators for standard R35 GT-R turbos
- HKS Electronic Valve Controller (EVC) boost controller
- HKS dump and front pipes (delete all catalytic converters)

HKS Kansai Carbon Fiber Radiator Shroud, Exhaust Surround
HKS Kansai have revealed in August’s Option Magazine new carbon fiber parts in development for the R35 GT-R. First up is a carbon fiber radiator shroud similar to the one Zele International announced late last month.
Secondly is a new product we haven’t seen before (well we got a preview over at CBA-R35 blog) which is a carbon fiber exhaust tip surround. This replaces the standard plastic exhaust surround seen below.
These parts will be available later this month from HKS Kansai.

GTR-World.net: Interview with HKS Kansai
There is a new interview up on the GTR-World.net website with HKS Kansai boss Toshiyuki Mukai about their impressions of the Nissan GT-R and also on tuning the new addition to their stable. GTR-World were also able to test drive HKS Kansai’s GT-R
Mukai-san comments that the first thing they noticed was the high seating position and that this had to change. The seat was also not supportive enough under high G cornering and finally the position of the seat also was not conducive to taking long trips. To fix this they fitted the Recaro TS series seats in red up front which lower the seat height as well as providing a considerable weight saving.

HKS Kansai Full Twin Exhaust
HKS Kansai have developed a full twin exhaust from the front pipes back. They have managed to do away with the rear central muffler design as well instead opting for two inline mufflers with a more direct exhaust flow path.
As with all HKS Kansai parts the quality looks to be top notch. We’ll let you know once some back to back dyno tests have been performed on the power increase you should expect from this type of setup.
