HKS GT600 Sports and Racing Kit for Nissan GT-R Released

June 14, 2009 Comments off

HKS’s GT570 Racing kit has been a huge hit with GT-R owners both in Japan and overseas. HKS have extended the kit before to suit street cars by producting the GT570 Sports package which shipped with high-flow catalytic converters to keep emissions in check. Now they’ve gone another step further and produced a second pair of packages known as the GT600 Racing and GT600 Sports kits.

The GT600 package evolves the existing GT570 kit and in fact ships with all the same equipment plus a few extras. Those include the HKS Premium Suction kit – large diameter OE intake piping replacements – a fuel regulator and a fuel pump. The GT600 kit also ships with the HKS Superior Finisher fitted with an exclusive GT600 badge. A small dyno comparison chart of all four kits can be seen below:

The pricing for each kit has also been released, for the GT600 Racing package you get three options. The GT600 Racing base package is 882,000 yen. For the less obnoxious “Silencer Version” fitted with an additional muffler in the exhaust you will pay 903,000 yen. Finally for the LEGAMAX Premium exhaust version you’re looking at 1,155,000 yen all up.

If being street legal is your thing, then you’ll opt for the GT600 Sports package at 1,197,000 yen for the base package for 1,470,000 yen including the LEGAMAX Premium exhaust.

The GT570 Racing package base price is 598,500 yen so you’re looking at ponying up just under 300,000 yen more for the GT600 Racing kit that most buyers will go for.

HKS Release Street Legal GT570 Sports Package

February 19, 2009 Comments off

For those of us not willing to take the risk of failing an emissions test the HKS GT570 Racing Package presents a problem. It ships with decat exhaust components mainly and depending on your local regulations this may not technically be legal.

To suit on-road street legal applications with almost identical performance, HKS have now released the HKS GT570 Sports Package which includes pretty much what you’d expect to see on a street legal version of the HKS GT570 Racing Package kit. That is:

  • HKS Stainless Metal Catalyzer Midpipes (75mm x 2 into 80mm x 1)
  • HKS Aluminium Intercooler Piping
  • HKS EVC Electronic Boost Controller
  • HKS Super SQV Blow Off Valves with Piping Kit
  • HKS Upgraded Turbo Wastegate Actuators
  • HKS Super Fire Racing M45HL Spark Plugs

Suitable for both series I (12/2007 to 12/2008) and series II (01/2009 onwards) GT-Rs the kit is priced around the 913,500 yen mark in Japan.

This is somewhat of an increase over the 598,500 yen retail price of the GT570 Racing Package. The price of staying legal…

The Rise and Fall and Rise Again of the Fastest Nissan GT-R: Part 1

January 3, 2009 Comments off

The end of 2008 brings to a close the first chapter in the story of one special Nissan GT-R that we’ve been following since early days here. During the last few months there’s been no other GT-R that could come close to it down the drag strip once it dipped into the mid 10’s consistently.

It was somewhat fitting that on the last track event of 2008 it was to again break it’s own record and ultimately break itself when it’s transmission let go doing what it did best, launching hard at the drag strip.

Over 100 launches using the Nissan GT-R’s now infamous launch control, with approximately 30 of those resulting in a sub-10 second ET, took it’s toll. Recorded on video for posterity you can watch what it feels like to strip first gear in a new GT-R.

Garage Saurus’ Answer to the HKS GT570 Racing Package

September 5, 2008 Comments off

Garage Saurus have been tinkering again. Their GT-R demo car never stays together very long while new parts are being released they’re trying them out as soon as their released.

They’ve baulked at the new HKS GT570 Racing kit though. Seeing the price tag of 570,000 yen they’ve decided they can do better cheaper and have proposed the Garage Saurus GT605 kit with a target of 605ps!

Well sure it’s a bit of a harmless poke at HKS but I’m sure the Saurus guys will do a great job. First task was to sort out the boost control and replacing the stock wastegate actuators for some upgraded units is underway.

HKS GT570 Racing Package Dyno’d

September 3, 2008 Comments off

The HKS GT570 racing package was unveiled recently in a HKS press release. The kit features exhaust, intake pipe kit, boost controller and wastegate actuators (see previous post for more details) and is said to be good for 570ps. Not sure if HKS mean to say 570ps at the engine but the dyno graphs on their website seem to suggest that reading of 579ps.

Recently Top Racing in Hong Kong got hold of one of these new kits and fitted it up. On the Dyno Dynamics dyno it made 559.2ps at all wheels. Pretty serious power and it sounds great too.

Interesting development from HKS who have so far remained somewhat quiet on the R35 GT-R parts development. This is their upcoming GT570 kit, so named as it is designed to net 570 ps from your GT-R once installed and setup right.

The kit comes with the following from HKS:

  • HKS aluminium hard pipe kit for R35 GT-R
  • HKS silicon hose joiners
  • HKS wastegate actuators for standard R35 GT-R turbos
  • HKS Electronic Valve Controller (EVC) boost controller
  • HKS dump and front pipes (delete all catalytic converters)
