Global GT-R Nismo ST1 Spec GT-R Debuts in Altech GT Challenge South Africa
Back in September Nismo announced that they were adding an additional authorized NHPC outside of Japan that would be able to offer Nismo’s special edition GT-Rs. Global GT-R in South Africa was given this honor.
This includes not only the Nismo ClubSport Package but also makes them the first NHPC outside Japan to sell the Nismo RC ST1 race car which until now had only been seen during 2010 Japanese Super Taikyu series.
The first Nismo RC ST1 spec car in South Africa, the Global GT-R, made it’s racing debut in the Altech Challenge Series this month pit up against some serious GT cars at Kyalami Circuit. Racing in class A, they ended up in third place on the podium by the end of the day. Not a bad first day out.
Looks like the guys from Global GT-R have a full 2011 season ahead of them and hopefully they will continue to race and develop the Nismo RC ST1 car. It’s really great to see it on the track.

2012 Nissan GT-R Posts Amazing 0 – 62 Mph Time
A few days ago we saw a teaser video of Nissan testing the new GT-R out at Sendai Highland racetrack in Japan. Nissan was in attendance in full force including Chief Engineer for the GT-R project Kazutoshi Mizuno-san.
The testing was focussed on one thing, off-the-line acceleration of the new DBA-R35 GT-R and determining what will be the official 0 – 100km/h (0 – 62 mph) time.
Above is the finally posted results video and with a track temp of just 13 degrees C (55.4 degrees F) and utilising the upgraded and tweaked new launch control featured on the DBA-R35, the GT-R reeled off a 3.046s run to 62 mph as measured by a V-Box measuring device.
To put that in perspective it is quicker than not only the new Porsch 911.2 Turbo it’s quicker than what Porsche rates their own 911 Turbo S special edition.
Not content with a three second flat 0-62mph, during analysis of the run afterwards, Mizuno mentions that with a warmer track temp and hence, warmer, stickier tyre contact, the new GT-R could very well dip into the 2.9’s.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!
Auzrun November 2010 – Steve Jones to Pilot Japanese Cop Car R35 in Aussie Rally
Having started in 2008, the Auzrun Lifestyle Rally is the first of it’s kind in Australia. Similar to what is known in Europe and the US as the Gumball events, the Auzrun is a 5 day long non-competitive drive event where drivers from all over Australia and the world will stretch their vehicle’s legs around south eastern quarter of Australia.
The rally begins in Sydney today and all manner of supercars, musclecars, tuner cars and character cars will be heading south to Melbourne where they will make their first stop. As in the Gumball, every stop is a party so drivers are set to have a massive week ahead of them. After Melbourne the cars will next stop in Torquay before finishing up in Adelaide, South Australia.
For the November 2010 Auzrun, Steve Jones with sponsor McDonalds will be entering the Fabcar 2009 GT-R in full Japanese police car mock livery put together by sponsor GT Graphics. Thanks to Josh @ Sixfour Skate, one of the car’s other sponsors, we have these scoop photos of the car before it heads out tonight. The car also sports some massive ADV1 21″ wheels thanks to ADV1 – they are 21″x10 up front and 21″x13 in the rear wrapped with tyres provided thanks to Tech9 Tyres.
This is not the first time readers here will have been introduced to Steve Jone. He claimed back to back victories in the Quit Targa West in 2008 and 2009 in a Nissan GT-R, he was also the youngest competitor to ever win the event at all in 2008.
Josh also plans to document the trip with photos and video so we look forward to hearing about the event from him as it happens! Have fun out there guys!

Tomei Launch Even Bigger Upgraded Procams for the Nissan GT-R
Since launching their first upgrade Poncam camshafts for the VR38 back in March, Tomei has been busily preparing some significantly more hard core camshafts for the more heavy breathing VR38’s around. Recently they announced the availability of these Procams which look to be the biggest set of cams that the VR38 has seen to date.
Adding to the existing 256 degree 10.25 mm IN and 264 degree EX 10.50 mm lift Poncams which come as a fixed set of 4, the Procam range gives tuners the ability to select from a long list of profiles to mix and match on the Intake/Exhaust side. Here’s the full list of cam profiles available:
Once you’ve decided your application and selected your cam profile, price is fixed at just $550 MSRP per side so you’re looking at just $1100 all up for a full set irrespective of the profile you choose.
Hit up the Tomei website for more information or contact your favorite distributor of Tomei parts to order your set.

Albins / SSP Extreme Duty First Gear Upgrade for Nissan GT-R
Boasting more than a 50% improvement in strength over the OEM first gear in the Nissan GT-R’s GR6 transmission is the new Albins / SSP Extreme Duty First Gear Replacement. A bold claim but judging by the press release seems like it might be backed up by the numbers.
It features 40% more tooth width/contact area than the stock items, thicker shaft, “ground” tooth profile that offers profile protection and billet from proprietory high strength alloy. Albins specially treat each gearset after manufacturing to improve strength further so they say they’re good to 1000hp.
The first gear sets are designed as direct replacements and should not require any additional parts to get up and running. They’re priced at $2199.
Also from Albins / SSP is a new Final Drive package. Designed to allow big power GT-R’s to increase top speed to around ~214mph it’s great for those interested in standing mile comps and the like.
Other gearsets and ratios are planned soon so keep an eye out and check the following websites for the full details…

COBB Tuning Release AccessTUNER Race for Nissan GT-R
COBB’s famous AccessTUNER Pro software for the Nissan GT-R COBB AccessPORT has traditionally only been available to approved AccessTUNER workshops. This is fine for the majority of end users but for race teams or for experienced tuners, returning back to base for a touch up has been restrictive.
AccessTUNER Race end-user tuning software comes to the rescue here offering the ability to do everything from modifying existing maps to touch them up to building completely new maps from the ground up for a major retune.
AccessTUNER provides control of vital engine parameters to the user, such as; intake cam advance, wastegate duty cycle, fuel injector scalar, boost control tables, knock sensitivity, rev limiters, speed limiters and many more. Customizable data monitors let the user choose which channels are monitored to see how changes impact the behavior of the engine. The built-in data logging capability captures data from up to 30 channels across the entire rev-range, allowing detailed data analysis after a dynamometer test. 3-D graphical mapping gives the user a comprehensive view of engine behavior across three axis to evaluate where performance can be maximized. An integral dashboard shows the user-chosen gauges to be displayed during the tuning process.
It seems pretty full featured, in fact it looks almost exactly like the Pro version except that it is locked to a single AccessPORT. So no tuning your friends GT-Rs with the Race version unfortunately.
Still it’s great value all the same, on top of the already giant bang for your buck AccessPORT. It sells for $695.

Boost Logic Crank Dampener for Nissan GT-R
Parts news update time – something we haven’t done enough of lately. In this installment we highlight the latest release from Boost Logic which is their Crank Dampener/Pulley for the VR38. The guys at Boost Logic had noticed a disturbing trend of irregular main bearing wear during engine teardowns in their workshop which they corroborated with other workshops around that were doing the same.
In their view, this is being caused by crankshaft resonance possibly seen once the GT-R in question is tuned and still running the OEM dampener designed for OEM power.
To solve this issue and the potential bearing problems it can cause over time they’ve released this dampener of their own which uses a larger, higher quality dampener ring than factory which is better suited to balance out the stronger resonance created by engines that produce more torque.
Features:
- Reduces Torsional Vibration
- SFI 18.1 Approved
- 360 Degree Lazer Engraved Timing Marks
- OEM Crank Pulley Diameter
They’re priced around the $999 mark and you can order one at one of Boost Logic’s distributors.
