Mine’s Release Pricing for Carbon Front Bumper for Nissan GT-R

March 6, 2010 Comments off

The GT-R’s front end is well designed for both cooling and aero purposes. It’s hard to improve on it but with enough dedication and application of sound principles and by putting a lot of thought into the design, the team at Mine’s did just that. The new Mine’s Dry Carbon Front Bumper which we debuted on GTRBlog in January is now ready and pricing has been released.

The bumper itself is priced at 890,000 yen minus the canards. The Mine’s Carbon Canard Type-II that integrate so well with the front bumper are priced separately at 160,000 yen. As a set the whole lot will be 1,050,000 yen in Japan.

On the topic of Mine’s they’ve also put together a FAQ sheet on the Mine’s power upgrades which are currently available. These upgrades aren’t factoring in the Mine’s Complete Engine or any other new power upgrades that may be in the pipeline.

These two sheets give details on what the upgrades consist of, the target power increases with a few technical details in there as well. There’s also a nicely formatted web version that is possibly easier to read.

Take a look at these sheets in the gallery below and head over to the Mine’s website to contact them if you have any more questions!

HKS Kansai Front Lip Spoiler for Nissan GT-R

March 3, 2010 Comments off

Designed to improve the front stability and downforce, this new front lip spoiler from HKS Kansai is also pretty good looking in carbon fibre. It’s manufactured in wet carbon so it wont hit you too hard in the hip pocket either.

It’s available now from HKS Kansai distributors for about 81,000 yen in Japan.

Varis Runduce Price Carbon Aero Parts for Nissan GT-R

January 29, 2010 Comments off

It’s not their widebody masterpiece (yet) but it’s the first stage of carbon fibre upgrades for the Nissan GT-R to come out of Japanese legend Varis. Renowned for their amazing Evo and STi work in the past we’re hoping their final stage of GT-R modifications “fills the shoes” so to speak.

Anyways, pricing is now out for both Japan and US regions thanks to Varis and GT-RR as well as the official product shots. Their kit will be available in Varis Semi Dry Carbon (VSDC) versions as well as wet carbon with separate pricing for each.

The VSDC option allows Varis to produce some very lightweight rigid parts without the full extra cost of a traditional dry carbon production.

The Varis Front Diffuser for example weighs in at 4.5kg versus the 6.5kg standard OEM front underspoiler – more than 30% weight savings. It’s priced at about $2740 USD but probably a little less for the wet carbon version.

Next take a look at the Varis Aero Hood, featuring some unique venting it also looks to be well constructed from underneath. The VSDC version goes for around the $4620 mark but the wet carbon version is just $2845. There’s a weight reduction to just 8.5kg in the VSDC version of the hood.

The rear diffuser round back is again quite an original look, personally I think it needs time to grow on me but if its your cup of tea you can pick one up for $1250 in wet carbon. There is currently no VSDC version of this item.

The sideskirts were quite a hit for me, they really work well with the lines of the car but stand out at the same time. They’re also pretty cheap at just $1250 a set in Varis Semi Dry Carbon. Again you can knock off a bit of that price for the normal wet carbon version if you wanted.

Lastly we have the Varis Rear Wing and Trunk Spoiler available in full VSDC or in VSDC with a FRP trunk spoiler. It’s again an original looking wing that will certainly set your car apart from all the others. I’m not feeling the trunk spoiler but the wing itself looks great. The price is $3350 for the VSDC version or $2750 for the VSDC FRP combo.

Tokyo AutoSalon 2010: Nordring Carbon Fibre and Suspension Parts for Nissan GT-R

January 18, 2010 Comments off

As expected the Nordring GT-R attended the 2010 Tokyo AutoSalon which gave us a great opportunity to check it out in the flesh for the first time. Let us take you on a tour around the car to get a good feel for the Nordring gear.

Starting up front of the Nordring GT-R we can first notice the front bumper cover over the center section of the OEM bumper. This covers the normally gunmetal grey section of the front bumper with carbon which extends down to the engine oil cooler duct area with some horizontal louvres. It’s matched to a dry carbon grille which adds a unique looking lump either side of the GT-R badge. The fitment on these pieces was perfect and the carbon could not be faulted in any area whatsoever.

Continuing downward we next notice the dry carbon front lip and underspoiler. It’s two duct inlets are a welcome sign for many. We verified that they are also indeed functional. The ducts continue to the start of the front wheel well where a second guiding panel (FRP on the demo car but dry carbon for production) takes the stream of outside air and directs it at the front brake rotors. Again the carbon was faultless and fitment perfect against the OEM bumper. The weave was angled precisely to take advantage of the carbon’s pleasing visual effect.

Lastly, we see the headlight finishers and NACA ducts on the hood which add splashes of carbon to the lower edge of the headlights and hood respectively. A nice touch, well executed on both counts.

Moving to the side of the car we notice the carbon sideskirts firstly. These very much keep in the theme of the OEM side skirts with only one small difference. The upper edge is slightly changed at the front to sit flush with the front fender finishers. This was about the only odd part of the car and I couldn’t figure what they were getting at with it.

The dry carbon side mirror covers are a real sweet touch, you can see that the weave of the fibre changing to keep the two “tone” look of the standard mirror. I found that particularly appealing.

Around back now and first up is the the trunk lid which is replaced with an entirely carbon item. It’s OEM in quality and appearance until you notice that there is an integrated rear lip on it. It gives it that unique look and most probably some aero benefit. The fit and finish of this was top notch and it could be a big seller if you ask me.

The full carbon rear wing sits atop and looks very similar to the standard GT-R unit. There’s some minor styling changes but overall most wont pick them without seeing them sitting next to each other.

Moving down, we see the new Nordring carbon rear bumper. A huge piece of carbon with some unique horizontal louvres designed to remove heat from the transmission area above the rear under diffuser. It’s matched with a carbon underspoiler which in turn matches up to a set of rear under diffuser fins.

That pretty much covers the outside of the car, but if we look under the hood now we can see one of the more original engine cover designs seen so far. There’s also a set of engine bay shrouds that wrap around the front of the engine bay as dress up parts more than anything else.

Which brings us to the Toshio Suzuki tuned Bilstein Suspension. This kit offers a damper set replacement, springs not included, which will replace your standard dampers without the side effect of voiding your Nissan factory warranty. The dampers are fully compatible with the GT-R’s adjustable settings for R mode, Normal and Comfort and are designed for street and sports use.

Nordring also say original forged magnesium wheels are on their way but at the show they weren’t on the car. The wheels you see in the photos are actually the Neez EI8GHT Eurocross-R wheels with GT-R centre cap option fitted up. Great wheels all the same.

After checking out the Nordring car, we were able to spend some time catching up with Nordring President and Nissan Chief Test Driver, Toshio Suzuki-san. We asked if he had plans to export the Nordring parts to overseas markets. Unfortunately for us though, it seems that, since the parts are Nissan Motors approved for use with the GT-R, he’d need to jump through quite a few hoops to do that. So at this stage you simply wont be able to buy it directly for export. He didn’t permanantly rule it out, but there may be a long wait before we see this stuff outside Japan.

We also cleared up if Nordring planned any engine tuning modifications, and – so far no. They are happy with the standard car’s performance and to mess with that, we got the feeling, would also likely risk their fortunate position of being the only aftermarket supplier of Nissan approved parts for the GT-R.

Overall, a very conservative and well thought out bunch of upgrades to the GT-R which don’t intefere with the lines of the car. It’s not for everyone however as it comes with the dual baggage of price tag and being difficult to obtain outside Japan.

We got a few photos to browse through but let us know in the comments if you want answers to any more questions and remember to check our previous posts if you want to know about pricing on this stuff.

Password:JDM Dry Carbon Wide Front Fenders for Nissan GT-R Final Release

October 14, 2009 Comments off

pwjdm-cf-fenders-107

Well enough sneak peeks and previews it’s time for the real deal. Password:JDM have spent an unprecidented amount of time developing the perfect widebody front fender out of 100% dry carbon fibre for your Nissan GT-R. These kevlar reinforced dry carbon fenders took 200+ days of development. From a spark of an idea, to painstaking clay modelling to final product.

The main goal was to assist in eliminating understeer in the powerful but heavy GT-R. To achieve that goal the guys at PWJDM wanted to fit a full 20×11 inch wheel fitted with a Toyo Proxes R888 315 wide tyre up front. The only way to do this was to go wider.

So that’s what they did, a full 38mm wider at the front without changing the lines of the car. Fender vents were also widened to help get air out of the wheel well area and the front side markers are replaced with carbon inserts. The whole fender is also signicantly lighter that stock. Overall I’d have to say this is one of the most highly successful aero / body projects for the Nissan GT-R to date.

Price is $3899.99 and as noted previously, the Password:JDM GT-R will be at SEMA in Las Vegas from 3rd – 6th November 2009 if you want to get up close with a truckload of carbon.

Knight Racer Carbon Fibre Range for Nissan GT-R

October 1, 2009 Comments off

knightracer-carbon-001

You may have seen Knight Racer products adorning Nissan GT-Rs worldwide already. The UK based manufacturer has been in the Skyline / GT-R world for a good number of years now sporting a solid reputation of producing some fine quality carbon parts, so it’s fairly natural to assume it would continue when the latest GT-R launched in Europe earlier in the year.

Their range of Hybrid Carbon parts for the R35 Nissan GT-R is already quite broad covering many of the usual suspects. In the lineup they have a carbon oem style hood, carbon trunk lid, carbon rear wing, carbon front grille, carbon front lip spoiler, carbon rear exhaust protector, and carbon hood ducts. The guys also have less conventional items such as carbon full replacement front guards.

Knight Racer intends to expand it’s GT-R product range and to target the international market so expect to hear more news shortly. For now, hit up the Knight Racer website for more pics and more details on how to get your hands on these and more.

Password:JDM Dry Carbon Fibre Rear Seat Delete for Nissan GT-R

September 25, 2009 Comments off

passwordjdm-rearseats-001

The GT-R is one of those very few supercars that is not only fun as a daily car but practical as well. You get 485hp a big trunk and four seats thrown in to make it a pretty damn good deal all round. Many of us however will use those rear seats as either somewhere to put the helmet when were off to the track or something else even less glamourous than that. There’s the option to remove the seats but then what?

Password:JDM have again hit the sweet spot between form and function with their take on the solution for this. A rear seat delete that leaves you with two lightweight and attractive rear 100% dry carbon seats.

The main feature points to note are:

  • 100% Dry Carbon Construction
  • High-strength, extremely lightweight, organic design
  • Tecnocraft ‘T1’ Racing Seat aesthetic design elements
  • Remove, replace, drop-in and install in minutes
  • Deletes OEM seatbelt hardware
  • Locks into place using factory mounting locations (washers/hardware provided)
  • Just under 7lbs for the pair.

Pricing was not available at the time of writing but to register your interest let the guys know by contacting them via their website linked below.

When developing a true function-over-form product for the R35, sometimes the end-result happens to be extremely aesthetically pleasing as well! We had to put our thinking caps on when bringing a real “game changer” rear seat delete alternative to market… the premise for the design and build was to delete the rear seat and delete all the stuff required for the rear seats. this premise came about since we find the factory rear seats near useless by design. there was hardly any leg room, so why even bother. reducing as much weight as possible without making this car look bare and naked has been our agenda since day one. The PWJDM Rear Seat Delete project has followed this directive to a T.

To maintain and forever perpetuate the infamous PWJDM baller reputation, we definitely had to build them out of 100% dry carbon fiber and mold them to fit both the body and the car like a glove. Building upon the successes of the Tecnocraft ‘T1’ racing seats (http://www.tecnocraft.com) from the premium side of Password Industries, Inc. We also kept in mind the interior “race bucket seat” theme and wanted a continuation of this effort for the rear seat deletes. what’s shown here is a true testament to PWJDM’s commitment to the platform as well as our abilities as a true tuner and developer of great products.

The first thing to notice would be the organic curvature of the rear seat delete, which provides structural strength and rigidity over just a simple flat design. Secondly, they have been molded in such a way to provide a tight, drop-in fit, and have eliminated the rear passenger seatbelt hardware – yes, you are correct, this weight-saving upgrade is strictly for off-road use only!

MCR Update Carbon Aero Parts Lineup

July 29, 2009 Comments off

mcr-rear-002

After a short hiatus in the parts release department, MCR have updates in the aero range that should be available for GT-R owners now or in the very near future. We got our first look at the MCR Carbon Front Lip prototype about 12 whole months ago now. To match it, MCR have finished a set of subtle carbon sideskirts and a new design rear underspoiler as well.

The rear underspoiler is quite unique, it takes a leaf out of the new Nissan Z34’s book with an integrated tail lamp in the center. It even looks like the OE tail lamp fitted back there. Interesting indeed.

MCR have also been busy updating their website of late, so if you’re in the mood to checkout their whole range in one place, head over to the link below.

If you’re more interested in getting your hands on these, hit up GT-RR.com who’ll be getting the first ones in shortly.
