SuperGT: Round 6 – 37th Annual Pokka 1000km – Suzuka Circuit

August 19, 2008

This weekend brings us a very special round of the Japanese SuperGT 2008 series, the Suzuka Circuit Pokka 1000km endurance race. This 173 lap race around the 5.8 kilometre Suzuka track is a true battle of driver skill and team strategy. Long races like these are won on strategy and Nismo has made some changes to their driver line up in preparation.

Last year Nismo fielded just 2 drivers for each car #22 MOTUL AUTECH GT-R and the #23 XANAVI NISMO GT-R. This year each car has a total of three drivers as they introduce 31 year old German driver Dominik Schwager to the #22 team and 27 year old Brazilian born driver Fabio Carbone for the #23 team.

In practice at Twin Ring Motegi circuit recently Dominik was already taking to the GT500 Nissan GT-R like the professional he is and turning competitive times.

Having experienced some bad luck lately, the GT-Rs are down to their lowest weight handicap since early in the season but still as much as 55kg + 75kg on top for the #23 GT-R.

Practice begins Friday as per usual and the race is Sunday afternoon with qualifying in between. Don’t forget that this weekend is also the huge tuner show at MobilityLand featuring pretty much every single one of your favourite Japanese tuners so stay tuned for updates from there!
