Nissan GT-R Launch at Australian International Motor Show 2008
Nissan Australia announced the availability of Nissan GT-R in Australia today at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney. To a crowd of media, Nissan Australia CEO Dan Thompson extolled the GT-R’s virtues and announced pre-orders had begun at the country’s 11 Nissan High Performance Centres.
Priced from $148,000 AUD the GT-R is a relative performance bargain in a country as protective of it’s local automotive industry as Australia is.
GTRBlog was at the media presentation this morning to check out what could be the very first of the Australian specification Nissan GT-Rs. I mean who could resist the lure of fresh GT-R. This one was a Vibrant Red Premium Edition (called Black Edition in Japan). It had none of the options such as backup camera or LED driving lights up front.
While there I noticed a couple of little things it DID have like popup xenon headlight washers which are mandatory in Australia and English text on all the switchgear. Also tucked away in the glovebox was the VIN number indicating what the Australian spec chassis numbers will look like. If you’re wondering, this car’s sequence number was “400003“.
The Nissan GT-R will be at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney from today until October 19th so get down and check it out.
