Driver’s Republic Feature: Nissan GT-R vs. Porsche 911 GT2 at Nürburgring
Driver’s Republic has gone to Germany to attempt to answer some questions about the GT-R’s laptime and Porsche’s claim of cheating. Armed with a Nissan GT-R and a Porsche 911 GT2 they put them to the test on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Experienced Nürburgring race driver Chris Harris piloted both cars around the same track back to back on the same days to wring the best laptime he could out of both. Track conditions were fairly poor really. partially damp and very cold (7°C) and using the inferior tires on the GT-R, he managed a 7m55s lap.
Porsche’s claim that given their own driver in their own GT-R they could not manage better than 7.54. So let me get this straight, Drivers Republic can manage the same time on a partially wet track with the less sticky Bridgestone tires? One must then wonder if Porsche really tried to emulate the Nissan test conditions at all before making their accusation?
Anyway let’s not spoil the whole thing by getting into an internet argument about it because we all know how grown up they always turn out. Lot’s of data and a full online article, beautifully presented as usual, over at Drivers Republic. When you’re done reading it, they’ve also got the full videos of the Porsche and GT-R laps on Driver’s Republic TV.
