AMS Smash The 9 Second Barrier at TX2K10

March 21, 2010 Comments off

After beating out all the other competitors in the dyno competition, AMS have driven this SR850 tuned R35 GT-R to a worlds first 9 second ET at Lonestar Motorsports Park on their first run of the day!

They went on to run a string of 9 second passes with the best ET being 9.89 @ 145 even after hitting the rev limiter in second. The best mph of the day was 146.96 mph which you can see in the timeslip in the gallery below.

To get there, the car runs an AMS SR850 upgrade package which includes:

  • AMS upgraded bolt on turbo’s
  • Upgraded actuators
  • AMS 90mm downpipes
  • AMS 90mm Resonated midpipe
  • AMS 90mm exhaust
  • AMS Front mount intercooler
  • AMS 3″ intercooler piping
  • HKS bov’s
  • AMS Large MAF intake pipes
  • AMS fuel System upgrade
  • Cobb AccessPORT
  • AMS Custom Race gas map (unleaded 109 octane Race gas)

With these mods the car is putting 765awhp and 738 lbft of torque to the ground. Impressive stuff and big big numbers from bolt on upgraded turbos. What will we see when AMS’s custom cast manifolds and even bigger turbos get bolted up to Chuck’s car?

Congratulations to Frank who owns the world’s first 9 second GT-R and to AMS who built it!

Cheers to Chuck for the heads up on this. Also note, these pics are from previous runs.

Nissan GT-R Quarter Mile Record Falls Again

March 11, 2010 Comments off

It’s been a while now but the previous quarter mile record (at an officially sanctioned drag strip that is) of 10.31 @ 131mph was destined to fall and fall it has! The GT-R nudges its way ever closer to the 9 second mark thanks to SSP, who built the car, and Jack Cecil from HP Logic who tuned it, by running a 10.236 @ 136.02 mph in Florida this week. A video of the pass is below.

On the same night the guys also recorded a 10.52 pass at 141.15mph in their white GT-R.

Certainly getting quicker and quicker, will we see 9 seconds sooner rather than later?

HP Logic E85 and Cobb AccessPort Powered 10 Second Drag GT-R

February 19, 2010 Comments off

Cobb AccessPORT ProTuners, HP Logic have been have been experimenting with E85 fuels on behalf of a customer with some great results lately. With some modifications to this GT-R’s fuel system the car ran an amazing 10.48 ET @ 133.21 mph at the drag strip.

Other than the fuel and exhaust system, the car was stock standard down to the turbos, actuators, wheels and even the heavy runflat tires.

With the E85 tune, this GT-R makes 573whp and 577ft-lb of torque as measured on a Mustang Dyno but of course, it does chew through the fuel to get there. It needs 950cc injectors and dual Walbro fuel pumps to supply enough of the go juice to make this power. The benefits are plenty though including great power and cooler burning which actually helps keep overall engine temps down.

The owner is running the car with it’s E85 tune and fuel again in the next few days and has now upgraded his wheels and tires so should be interesting to see how car he can push the combination of standard turbos and E85. Follow his progress in the NAGTROC thread below…

Switzer P800 Nissan GT-R Breaks Quarter Mile Record – 10.193 ET

October 16, 2009 Comments off

Word is in that Russan, Switzer P800 tuned, Nissan GT-R owner Oleg, has broken the world record for quarter mile ET for a Nissan R35 GT-R when he ran 10.193 yesterday.

We’re told that, in addition to the Switzer P800 package, the car was running 19″ Dymag lightweight carbon fibre wheels fitted with 315/30R19 Hoosier R6 tires. The car was also running VP Racing MS109 race gas. Even with the super sticky Hoosiers the car constantly spun the tires a good way down the strip.

It’s early days yet but according to our source, a video is inbound soon.

Thanks to JURY from for the tip.

GTC GT-R Runs 10.8 @ 126mph with Latest AccessPort Tweaks

September 18, 2009 Comments off

The guys over on NAGTROC have a pretty interesting discussion going regarding custom tuning of the staple GT-R ECU upgrade, the Cobb AccessPORT. The guys have figured out how to write maps that control boost pressure based on RPM.

While this doesn’t sound like much when described like that (and there’s probably more to it), its actually quite a big deal. What it allows the average GT-R owner to do is to get more tuning value from their Cobb AccessPORT before resorting to electronic boost controllers and aftermarket wastegate actuators to keep the GT-Rs small turbos from boost spiking, especially on gear change.

The guys at GTC Racing have used the latest code and maps on their GTR to run 10.8 @ 125.92 mph at Santa Pod drag strip in the UK. This car is fitted with neither a boost controller or a set of actuators. It’s also running street tires but is fitted with a full turbo back exhaust and Forge Motorsports upgraded intercooler.

AMS Raise the Bar Again: Worlds Highest Trap Speed for Nissan GT-R

August 13, 2009 Comments off

AMS can’t get away from the drag strip it seems as they are constantly pulling off personal bests. The latest was quite a win for them as they were able to set the highest known trap speed for a Nissan GT-R to date when they ran 10.48 @ 134.30 mph.

To place that in context with their rivals, the current quarter mile record is set at 10.31 @ 131mph by MVP while the previous best MPH was from SSP when they ran 10.37 @ 134mph.

To run 10.48 @ 134.3mph means the car is good for even lower ET’s depending on the launch / 60′ time. They really need to nail that down to see the car drop into the all out drag champion.

AMS Update: Intercooler Upgrade for Nissan GT-R, New Drag Record

August 2, 2009 Comments off

A two part post today regarding AMS’s exploits in the Nissan GT-R scene. First up they’ve unveiled renderings of their upcoming intercooler for the Nissan GT-R.

In other AMS news the guys have been back out at the drag strip to try and beat their own record for a Nissan GT-R on pump gas. Thanks to a set of loaner MT drag radials courtesy of Chuck “NAGTROC” H, with no other changes, they’ve dropped their own world fastest GT-R on pump gas ET down to 10.53 @ 133.68 mph! Congrats!

Video to come shortly!

AMS Sponsored GT-R Pump Gas Quarter Mile Record

July 18, 2009 Comments off

Seems like the big power GT-R scene has matured somewhat of late and quarter mile times are both falling and requiring less experimentation to get there. The AMS sponsored GT-R in the video above has run a 10.69 @ 132 mph on 93 octane gas making it the fastest run on pump gas according to AMS. What’s more is the list of modifications is quite brief and it was done on the standard Bridgestone runflat tires.

So what goes into an AMS built tuned mid 10’s on stock tires Nissan GT-R? Here’s the modifications list:

That’s all… Crazy eh!?

SSP Set New Quarter Mile MPH Record – 10.37 @ 134

June 28, 2009 Comments off

Just over a month since MVP Motorsports set the quarter mile record for the Nissan GT-R of 10.31 @ 131 mph, SSP have struck back with a few strong runs down the strip. In one outing they’ve managed a 10.49 @ 132mph and then a extremely strong 10.37 @ 134mph. These runs were done in very hot ambient temps (107 F) which means that may even see better times out of this car when the weather cools down a bit.

For now the fastest ET still stands at 10.31 sec but the SSP GT-R, with it’s higher trap speeds, is arguably putting out slightly more horsepower.

MVP Motorsports GT-R Breaks Quarter Mile Record – 10.31 @ 131mph

May 20, 2009 Comments off

Well known Texas based Toyota Supra shop MVP Motorsports have been preparing their own Nissan GT-R for some time now while also preparing to launch their new online store

And, as they say, what better way to do it than to set a new record R35 GT-R quarter mile time? Hitting up the brand new Dallas Raceway dragstrip they managed a 10.31 second ET @ 131 mph beating the previous world GT-R record by almost two tenths.

Of course this GT-R is no factory standard car and modifications include upgraded turbos, intercoolers, intakes, turbo outlet pipes, and y-pipe by ARD Motorsports. The ECU is a MVP tuned Cobb AccessPORT. Notice also that nitrous is left conspicuously OFF the modifications list and indeed was not used at the drags.

Thanks to Dusty@MVP for the heads up.
