There is no easy pathway to running a 6 second quarter mile, a lesson hard learned by Houston, Texas performance automotive house, The Shop Houston. Yet in June 2021 that’s exactly what this 2000hp, 4.1 liter, billet stroker crank running a pair of just 68mm Boost Logic turbos GT-R achieved when it ran a 6.97s at 206mph quarter mile pass. This makes this car the fastest GT-R in the world running a 68mm turbocharger.

Tuned by Rob Tuned’s Rob Harper this most recent record comes after already holding the world record quarter mile pass with smaller 58mm turbo at 7.46s @ 190mph. It really is amazing what results we’re now seeing with the platform that has matured since I was in the scene last.

While this isn’t the outright world record quarter mile record pass, GT-Rs running faster passes then 6.97 are running in larger turbo size classes and are producing even more insane amounts of power.

Congratulations to all the folks involved in building and driving this car. Keeping it in one piece down the track looks like handful itself.

AMS Alpha GT-Rs In Record Breaking Territory Again: 9.1 @ 163 mph and More

October 22, 2010 Comments off

Forget everything you read about Nissan GT-R quarter mile records because AMS just went and rewrote the book. They not only just smashed their own quarter mile ET record but they blew up the current Mph record as well.

With time to tweak the car since the first 9.33 second outing back in early October the guys took the car back to the track and managed a best time of 9.192 at 163.12 mph. Over two tenths quicker and a full 10 mph faster down the strip than their previous Alpha-10 best time. A serious improvement and seriously closer to 8 seconds.

Not content with just setting the outright quarter mile records all in one day they also went on to break the pump gas R35 quarter mile record in the Alpha-9 package GT-R. The Alpha-9 GT-R is the Nissan GT-R to dip into the 9’s on pump gas with a 9.95 ET @ 141.01 mph.

One of the best things about the AMS’s Alpha GT-Rs isn’t related to how damn fast they are but how streetable they remain with all that grunt under the hood. After running 9’s in the Alpha-9 the guys will begin an epic cross USA roadtrip beginning in Chicago, driving through Colorado and Nevada and ending up in SoCal. Over 2,000 miles of cross country driving with a full writeup expected. Check the video below for a taste of the Alpha-10’s daily drivability…

AMS Nissan GT-R Alpha 10 Package

Acceleration that leaves you breathless. Speed like nothing you have experienced. A power package that will leave any Super Car in its wake.

Over Twice The Horsepower Of A Stock GT-R Yet Mild Mannered For Daily Driving

The AMS Alpha 10 package for the Nissan GT-R combines the stock like driveablity of the Nissan GT-R with 1100+ horsepower. Typically power like this comes at the cost of reliability and comfort. That is not the case with the Alpha 10 as every aspect of this package was fine tuned to allow for a true Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Your GT-R will go from mild mannered and streetable one moment to white knuckled power the next.

Switzer R1K GT-R Smashes Into the 9 Second Club With a Record Mph Pass

October 14, 2010 Comments off

It’s the season for it, record breaking R35 GT-R quarter mile times that is. Switzer have joined in the fun after some serious R&D to see how their latest R1K package will perform at the drag strip.

“Damn well” was the result as they reeled off a 9.38 best ET at 155.29 mph. Enough to bump heads with the Alpha-10 GT-R by AMS Performance. They had the track to themselves so kept at it and took home a record for the day’s work for fastest mph for an R35 GT-R at 156.44 mph.

This Mph time is just a tad over 3 mph quicker than the AMS 9.33second ET recorded just the other day and shows the R1K certainly has the muscle to clock some faster times.

Massive effort to get this far from team Switzer so congratulations to them on the R1K’s performance and hope to see it out again breaking more records and dipping ever closer to the 8 second mark.

AMS Alpha 10 Nissan GT-R Sets New R35 Quarter Mile Record

October 6, 2010 Comments off

Something pretty exciting is happening over in Chicago lately. The first of the AMS Alpha-10 Package fitted GT-Rs is making it’s track debut trying to set new standards for ultra fast GT-Rs.

In it’s first outing, this complete street trim GT-R reeled off a 9.523 @ 150.62 mph. Well enough to get kicked off the track for not having a full cage, hell it’s quick enough not to technically be allowed near a drag strip without a parachute but even that wasn’t quick enough.

With some obvious smooth talking the guys were able to get one last run in and backed it up with an even more amazing 9.33 @ 153 mph!! The car made around 900awhp on AMS‘ dyno before the run.

The amount of mind bending acceleration generated by this car is difficult to grasp, AMS put together the above teaser video showing just the gauges to give you an idea but it’s hard to compute.

What’s crazier still is the Alpha GT-R range doesn’t stop here, a bigger, faster, more powerful Alpha-12 GT-R is still in the works. An 8 second club is in sight from here…

Huge congrats to Tim, the owner and big ups to AMS and Sheptrans for their work on these behemoths.

Third Annual GT-R Nationals Event September 24th – 26th

September 8, 2010 Comments off

Held annually in co-operation with the Z Nationals even, this road course, drag race, car show, and banquet event draws hundreds of Z, GT-R, and G cars each year to the Talladega/Atlanta area, along with GT-R and Z program representatives from Nissan North America. GT-R owners have came from as far away as Wisconsin, South Dakota, Indiana, and Z owners came from the United Kingdom and Jamaica.

As in past years, SpeedForSale, co-founder of the event, will also attend the event giving free technical advice and support to GT-R owners at each venue. They will also be offering over $7,000 worth of GT-R parts prizes and raffles!

For this year, the schedule for the weekend looks like this:

  • Friday, September 24 at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway for the road course event. Free instructors are provided if needed. Dinner afterward.
  • Saturday the 25th at Z1 Motorsports for the car show, dyno shootout, and vendor booths. Dinner banquet, awards, and late party afterward.
  • Sunday the 26th at Alabama International Raceway for 1/4 mile drag racing open sessions.

Of course sponsors such as Yokohama, GReddy, Garret, Tomei and more will also be there with booths and such. For more information I highly recommend heading over to the link below…

Tuned Nissan GT-Rs Take on Bugatti Veyron

May 21, 2010 Comments off

Put two Switzer P800 tuned GT-Rs into the mix with a megadollar hypercar and this may very well be the result. If you ever needed reinforcement that a 1000hp quad turbo 16 cylinder powered car is potent then this is highly recommended viewing.

MotorTrend: Lexus LFA vs Nissan GT-R

May 10, 2010 Comments off

Interesting to see what happens when you put the two most menacing Japanese supercars side by side in a straight line.

Considering the price tags I’d say the GT-R holds it’s own. It’d be interesting to see the results using launch control and, as mentioned on AutoBlog, how they fare on a road course.

Two More GT-Rs Run 9’s and New Records All Round

April 13, 2010 Comments off

A huge day for GT-R drag racing enthusiasts with not one but two more GT-Rs entering the mega exclusive 9 second R35 GT-R club.

A lonely club it was for the single GT-R in it until today when SP Engineering smashed the record and dug deep into the 9’s with a amazing 9.62 @ 150.75mph at SpeedWorld drag strip in Arizona, USA. That is seriously moving.

It was quickly followed by NAGTROC member Hing (rsfootball) who had an amazing day as well running back to back 9’s with a best of 9.8 @ 148mph.

Both of these cars feature the GReddy TD06-20g twin-turbo upgrade kit and were running the 18″ drag radials on Volk TE37 wheels for the best runs.

The SP Engineering car also has further modifications to the engine including:

  • GReddy Intercooler
  • CP Pisons with coating (standard sized)
  • Carrillo Conrods
  • 1000cc Injectors
  • SP Engineering Fuel Pump Setup w/FPR
  • TiTek Titanium Race Midpipe
  • TiTek Titanium Race Exhaust
  • Cobb AccessPORT

With all that said though, the clutches remain stock. You can actually check out their massive engine overhaul photo thread on their website here for pics of the engine components.

Hing’s car on the other hand is slightly milder, while it does have the same GReddy TD06-20g twin turbo kit, its still running standard internals… Yep a standard motor, upgraded fuel system, Cobb AcessPORT, GReddy Titanium Exhaust and Dodson Motorsport/Exedy upgraded clutch packs! There’s more to it than that but I’ll let Hing decide if he wants to divulge the rest over on NAGTROC

On this setup, and his own 20″ drag radials, he was running back to back 9.9’s. It was when he switched out to the 18″ drag radials that he dipped into the 9.8’s.

For these runs, both cars were running C16 fuel the track temps were around 120° F and air temps were about 80°F.

Congrats to Hing, SP Engineering and everyone involved in this huge success!

Stock Turbo Nissan GT-R ET and Mph Quarter Mile Records Fall

April 1, 2010 Comments off

In what was a big night for the GT-R tuner crowd, both trap speed and elapsed time Nissan R35 GT-R world records fell. Proving you don’t need a big custom modified turbocharger setup to really move in a GT-R.

The world record is now set to 10.36 @ 136.47mph driven by NAGTROC member godzilla2009 at PBIR in Florida. The video of that run is above. The car was fitted with only a few choice mods, completely standard turbochargers, and most importantly, tuned for E85 fuel. The modifications are:

  • Drag radials at the rears. Street tires in the front
  • Full exhaust
  • Upgraded Fuel Injectors
  • Running E85 tune by Jack Cecil (Horsepower Logic)
  • K&N panel filters
  • Upgraded wastegate actuators

It’s really amazing to see these stock turbo cars running so fast. Thanks to Chuck H from NAGTROC for getting us the info and the NAGTROC members racing and posting over on the forums.

Update: The run at 10.2 we were reporting earlier turned out to be a April Fools joke. Got me bad there.
