Edmunds: Nismo Clubsport GT-R First Drive

November 7, 2008 Comments off

A lucky few were recently invited to Sendai Highland Raceway in Japan recently to get a feel for the Nismo Clubsport version of the Nissan GT-R. Edmunds report goes into a lot of detail on the parts themselves but not a lot on the driving impressions.

I will be checking this out myself in a few weeks so I’ll give some of my own impressions when I return from Nismo Festival.

Edmunds: Long Term Test – 2009 Nissan GT-R

August 5, 2008 Comments off

Edmunds meant it when they praised the GT-R in their various tests and have spent their own money buying one for their fleet. They plan to keep the GT-R for 20,000 miles and keep us updated on how it goes long term. Everyone knows the GT-R by now and knows how much of a performance bargain it appears to be. Does it hold up under some strenuous driving?

The next 20,000 miles are not going to be easy on the GT-R. A car that is supposed to beat the Porsche 911 Turbo should be prepared to haul ass for the long haul.

Check it out at the link below.

Edmunds: 2008 Ultimate Performance Car Test: 2009 GT-R vs. the World

May 27, 2008 Comments off

Edmunds have again got their hands on an new US Spec Nissan GT-R to put to the test. This time against some of its rivals on the track and on the street as they close off some of California’s best mountain roads to even out any advantage any car may have at the track.

The cars tested against the GT-R were the Audi R8, Mitsubishi EVO X MR, Porsche 911 Carrera, Lotus Elise SC and the Subaru WRX STi. While some may be re-reading that sentence to find where they missed the Corvette or Viper it seems Chevy and Dodge would not come to the party… Why try when you’re only gonna get beat down?

Anyways stop reading now if you don’t want to know who wins without reading the whole article. The GT-R of course conquers all competitors coming first in both the track test and the street test.

While the results are one thing, don’t forget to checkout the video below. One part in particular when an R8 find out what happens when it tries to hang with the GT-R.

Edmunds: Full Test US Spec Nissan 2009 GT-R

May 7, 2008 Comments off

Edmunds got their hands on the new Nissan 2009 GT-R in full production US trim for a full test and test it they did. Worth a full read but here are the basic stats they extracted from their test car:

  • 3.5 seconds 0-60mph (0.1 seconds faster than their JDM test)
  • 11.7 seconds @ 116.8 mph 1/4 mile
  • 60-0mph in 98 feet (the shortest they’ve ever tested)

The GT-R goes on to get great marks in nearly all areas except maybe the ride comfort. Even in Comf mode “comf never comes…” Can’t please everyone but I think as far as US and Australian journalism goes a lot of guys are going to say this coming from softer sprung cars so it is no suprise. Personally I definitely did detect a night vs. day difference in the JDM GT-R on comf mode.

Edmunds: Nissan Skyline GT-R How To Buy One In America Right Now

April 8, 2008 Comments off

Edmunds have put together a story on exactly how it was that Daryl Alison from JSpecConnect.com was able to import the new R35 GT-R (JDM) version and have it on the road in the United States. While there is still much debate on exactly how legal the resulting vehicle is (i.e. state versus federal regulations on the matter) the loophole used to get the body shell and engines into the country is well established fact.

Check the link below for the whole story.

Edmunds: 2009 Nissan GT-R Road Trip – Part 3

March 28, 2008 Comments off

If, by now, you haven’t been keeping glued to your PC monitor waiting for updates from Edmunds here’s a wrap up of what they’ve gotten up to on their adventure from Santa Monica to Reno covering 3000 miles on the way.

Last time we saw them take the GT-R to El Mirage dry lake bed to get it dirty with some 130mph on dirt action. They’ve posted a new video about this and it’s well worth watching.

[video:videoegg:gid353/cid1207/CK/YZ/1206648385FZ6ditPZCLWWBVbhRl2g]

After this they took the GT-R to Sacramento Raceway to drag the GT-R down the 1/4 mile managing a 11.8 @ 118.5 mph which is slightly higher than expected but good enough for a first try. (Check out the link at the end for the video)

After the drag strip Edmunds did some real driving around Miller Motorsports Park and apparently had a load of fun but aren’t letting us in on any of it yet so we’ll have to wait for the photos.

Next stop on the agenda was the famous Bonneville salt flats to see how the GT-R fared at top speed of 193 mph but it wasn’t to happen as they found the place covered in water. They did manage to again test the launch control on the desolate access roads near by though. Why not hey.

That’s about it, for the full details checkout the pages over at Edmunds Inside Line: Straightline blog linked below.

Edmunds: 2009 Nissan GT-R Road Trip – Part 2

March 26, 2008 Comments off

So Edmunds have begun their road trip we posted about last week after publishing their first leg route via Google maps yesterday.

In this first leg of their 3000 mile journey they took their US spec R35 GT-R from Santa Monica to El Mirage dry lake bed where they proceeded to drive 130mph on dirt and have a load of fun getting the GT-R sideways. Then proceeding to Sacremento via the I-5 narrowly escaping a speeding ticket on the way.

Edmunds: 2009 Nissan GT-R Road Trip

March 20, 2008 Comments off

Here’s the deal. There are only seven U.S.-spec GT-Rs on American soil and we’re taking one on the road. We’ve got a new gas credit card, a white 2009 Nissan GT-R and three days to cover as many miles as we can.

An enviable proposition indeed. Lucky SOBs. Starting 26th of March, Edmunds are taking a road trip from California to Reno but they have 3 days to make it there. Where would you take it if you could get this car alone for three days?

Edmunds Inside Line: Dyno Tests – GT-R vs. Others

March 14, 2008 Comments off

As seen earlier in a post highlighting the dyno results of JSpecConnect.com’s R35 GT-R at both Harman Motive and Road Race Engineering Edmunds Inside Line has now published the full story.

The GT-R made 452 hp at the hubs on the Dynapack dyno and 406 hp at the wheels on the Mustang dyno.

Edmunds also compared it against the 997 twin turbo on the same dyno’s showing just how consistent the power delivery is from the car. Edmunds go on to comment that while the GT-R is not the outright horsepower champion it does use it’s available ponies more effectively than any car they have tested to date.

Check out the Edmunds Inside Line website for a photo gallery as well as a video clip of the R35 on the dynos.
