Nissan Shows off New GT-R to Press at Nurburgring
Journos from around the world have been given the first hands on with the latest incarnation of the Nissan GT-R over the past couple of weeks. What better place to do it than the Nurburgring where lucky press members were able to take the DBA-R35 on the Nordschlieffe to feel for themselves just how much of an improvement the 2012 model will be.
First of the articles have popped up on sites like Edmunds and Autocar each with some tantalising new photos of the car including finally some good interior shots.
To add to this, Nissan has been gracefully letting a few select European GT-R owners out on hot laps around the ‘ring with Nissan test drivers. What a ride, check out one of the YouTube videos below with Italian GT-R Club member Discoragno get’s a ride along with “Lord of the Ring” Toshio Suzuki himself.

Third Annual GT-R Nationals Event September 24th – 26th
Held annually in co-operation with the Z Nationals even, this road course, drag race, car show, and banquet event draws hundreds of Z, GT-R, and G cars each year to the Talladega/Atlanta area, along with GT-R and Z program representatives from Nissan North America. GT-R owners have came from as far away as Wisconsin, South Dakota, Indiana, and Z owners came from the United Kingdom and Jamaica.
As in past years, SpeedForSale, co-founder of the event, will also attend the event giving free technical advice and support to GT-R owners at each venue. They will also be offering over $7,000 worth of GT-R parts prizes and raffles!
For this year, the schedule for the weekend looks like this:
- Friday, September 24 at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway for the road course event. Free instructors are provided if needed. Dinner afterward.
- Saturday the 25th at Z1 Motorsports for the car show, dyno shootout, and vendor booths. Dinner banquet, awards, and late party afterward.
- Sunday the 26th at Alabama International Raceway for 1/4 mile drag racing open sessions.
Of course sponsors such as Yokohama, GReddy, Garret, Tomei and more will also be there with booths and such. For more information I highly recommend heading over to the link below…

100+ R35 GT-Rs at Japanese R35GTRClub National Meet
More than 100 R35 GT-Rs gathered at Laguna Gamagori in central Japan for the R35GTRClub National Meet this Sunday.
I’m sure it should be one of the biggest Nissan GT-R meets ever held over the world. Not only were fellow members of R35GTRClub there but, demo-cars from Kansai Service, HKS, NISMO, Nordring, TommyKaira, and Hashimoto Corp turned out as well.
Enjoy some of the pics taken at the meet.
NAGTROC Meetup: Toronto GT-Rs Come Out of Hibernation
It’s Spring time in Canada, and the Greater Toronto Area members of NAGTROC decided this past Saturday was the perfect weather to get together for the first time in 2010.
While some GT-Rs do spend the winter season on the street, most do get to see storage for a couple months, so it was a surprise that the Canadian section of NAGTROC had its best member showing ever. Having converged to one of downtown Toronto’s best bar and terrace area next to lake Ontario, the GT-Rs were stacked on Esplanade street while the owners met up at the city’s Bier Markt for a cold drink on a beautiful sunny weekend.
Having all met and freshened up, the group convoyed with photographers in tow to nearby Polson pier at the Docks in Toronto’s port. The owners spent a couple hours gathering around the cars, discussing visual mods, equipments and comparing upgrade stories. For the first time, and captured in a magnificent panoramic picture were all of the GT-Rs original launch year colours on hand, the very rare (in Canada) Ivory White and the now positively collectible Titanium representing!
As usual with a car meet, there was the conversation on the car’s ability to pull the good ole donut. With MF92 showing his 270 degree prowess and NickTo doing his signature Pretzel move!
Soon afterward some of the owner retired to a nearby watering hole for more fun and conversation over pub food.
Everyone had a great time and group agreed to meet again soon this summer with the hopes to beat its attendance record. A big thanks to the photographers on hand. Look for their work to show up on NAGTROC’s Canadian section here.
Thanks to NickTO @ NAGTROC for this guestblog for GTRBlog.com.
Supercar Sensation – Drive Your Dream Cars – GT-R Included
Chris over at AutomoBlog has given me a heads up on a regular supercar meetup in North Carolina, USA. This is a meetup with a bit of a difference though because for $200 – $300, YOU could be in the drivers seat of three of the seven hottest machines on the street today – the Nissan GT-R included.
The cars in the lineup are impressive and include, the Ferrari F430, Lamborghini Gallardo, Porsche 911 Turbo, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Nissan GT-R, BMW M3 and Mercedes C63 AMG. During one tour you’ll get to drive up to three of these on a one, two or four hour package.
AutomoBlog went along for a four hour package and wrote up their experiences, check the link below because if you’re nearby this may be right up your alley. Apparently the GT-R was banged up quite badly on the day they were there but has been replaced by now. Sounds like it doesn’t drive itself after all eh?
Forged Performance & NAGTROC Hold Biggest GT-R Track Day Yet
Well known Nissan parts and tuning company, Forged Performance, in cooperation with NAGTROC and Koni Challenge Team Freedom Autosport, successfully completed, quite possibly the largest GT-R-only track day in the world.
On February 23, 2009, no less than 21 GT-R’s made the pilgrimage to Virginia International Raceway in Danville, VA to tackle this world renowned race track. All skill levels were invited to attend, and the event went off without incident. All the GT-R’s ran strong and reliably all day long, and many of the top drivers putting down some impressive lap times in fairly stock cars.
In addition to the seemingly unlimited amount of track time, Bryan Hise from JRZ Suspension, hosted a suspension tech session which highlighted some of the considerations involved when modifying the GT-R’s suspension system. JRZ equipped GT-R’s set the fastest laps of the day, and attendees were invited to ride along and experience the track at speed.
Special thanks to Derek Whitis and his team, for their generous hospitality, and all the NAGTROC members that made this event most memorable. Forged Performance hopes to make this a bi-annual event, so look for details on the upcoming Nov, 2008 VIR NAGTROC track event.
Thanks to Sharif from Forged Performance for letting us publish this update and for sourcing the photographs for use on the ‘blog.

2009 Nissan GT-R Nationals Dates Announced – September 2009
After a successful 2008 GT-R Nationals event last year the 2009 GT-R Nationals promises to be even bigger and better. This year it’s combined with the Z Nationals and the G Nationals for all the Z and G series owners.
The GT-R Nationals event is a circuit racing, time attack, drag racing, dyno shootout and car show event that runs over four days. So far the schedule looks pretty packed:
- September 24th (Thursday) & 25th (Friday) – Road course racing, driver instruction and time attack at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway
- September 26th (Saturday) – Dyno comp and car show at Z1 Motorsports
- September 27th (Sunday) – Quarter mile drag comp at Alabama International Raceway
Should be a great long weekend with great events. Pricing wont be too bad either, entry into the road course racing should be around the $150/driver region which includes driver instruction if you want it.

Event: The Nissan GT-R High Performance Manual Book Signing
Coming up this Saturday the 7th of February, Alex Gorodji, author of the new book “The Nissan GT-R. High Performance Manual. An International Guide to High-Performance Components” will be signing copies at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
GTRBlog reader Kunani will have his Budez Nissan GT-R on display at the signing. The Budez GT-R will also feature in the new book.
If you’re in the area I recommend getting down and checking out Kunani’s car as it’s one amazing GT-R. The book is one of the first I know of to be published on the R35 GT-R in English so should prove to be an interesting read.
