Paris 2010: Nissan GT-R Spec-M / Egoist First Video

September 30, 2010 Comments off

As predicted by many, the brand new 2012 GT-R has most certainly turned up at the 2010 Paris Motorshow which starts October 2nd. Debuting in Paris is also evidently the luxury Nissan GT-R Egoist (aka SpecM). One lucky member of GTBOARD.com was able to get in early and scope it out in advance.

The GT-R in the video is fully decked out in R-Red leather interior, Rays SpecV wheels and SpecV carbon rear spoiler. Also visible in the engine bay is that new red engine cover. Absent though is any badge of any kind denoting the official model though it’s expected to keep it’s SpecM name in Europe.

We’ve run a post with a full list of SpecM / Egoist interior color options, head here to check it out…

2012 Nissan GT-R: NAGTROC Scoop First Unmasked Real World 2012 GT-R Photos

September 28, 2010 Comments off

Well while we were able to bring you the first unmasked prettied up brochure pics of the 2012 GT-R, we’ve been beaten to the punch of the first real world unmasked photos of the next GT-R. Especially important are the photos of the new Aurora Flare Blue Pearl color seen above and on NAGTROC.

NAGTROC also scooped photos of black, white and Dark Metal Grey GT-R’s out and about at the Nurburgring on a miserable looking afternoon. Toshio Suzuki evidently at the wheel.

Nissan have fully uncovered the car now including it’s LED running lights, hopefully the publication of our earlier photos had something to do with that…

Thanks to Matt MC for the heads up.

Top Secret Super GT-R: New Aero Launched for R35

September 25, 2010 Comments off

Not one to be outdone by Nissan themselves, Top Secret has launched their own updated fascia for the Nissan GT-R. You may be forgiven for at first thinking that this takes a leaf out of the 2012 GT-R’s book because of the double canard design. This look is all original Top Secret though and is reminiscent of the legendary Twin Turbo V12 Supra aero.

Also shared with the Supra design theme is the nose extension factor. If you take a second look you’ll see that this is no rehash of the OEM bumper but it has been extended forward by 50mm.

Finished here in the newest iteration of Top Secret Gold, more details of pricing, construction and availability should be out soon…

FIA GT 2010: GT-R Fourth in Algarve Final After Qualifying Race Win

September 20, 2010 Comments off

Team Sumo Power were on top of things this weekend for round 7 of the FIA GT1 World Championships 2010 after the #23 GT-R of Krumm/Dumbreck battled it out for the win in the qualifying race on Saturday. The strong performance put them on pole position for Sundays race, a position the held until the pit stop when an air hose broke away costing them precious seconds.

The team managed to fight back from this minor setback however into fourth position finish, a result that nets Sumo Power GT into third place in the championships but without the worry of having to run success ballast in round 8!

It was almost a non-start for the #22 Sumo GT-R though. Hit at the start of the race, they were forced to retire immediately.

Swiss Racing team’s weekend was again marred by issues, the #3 GT-R finishing in the pits and the #4 GT-R finishing in 18th place after a spin.

JUN Carbon Exhaust Ducts for Nissan GT-R

September 18, 2010 Comments off

JUN has deviated a little from their hardcore engine upgrades parts range to include this new Carbon Exhaust Duct in their GT-R lineup. These carbon exhaust tip surrounds will liven up your GT-R’s rear end for about 29,400 yen in Japan.

Possibly more interesting in the release than the parts themselves is that JUN seems to have a bright yellow R35 GT-R happening. Is this the return of the fabled JUN Hyper Lemon 1000hp GT-R in R35 format? We’d like to think so…

Battle of the Mega Godzillas Heats Up: SPE1000 and Switzer R1K Dynos

September 17, 2010 Comments off

Two huge builds are reaching tipping points in the GT-R world this week with big news from two prominent tuners that the 1000awhp barrier has been effectively reached. In one case it’s even been poked with a sharp stick.

First up from Switzer was the announcement that their R1K prototype build has reeled off a 1005awhp dyno pull at 32 – 34.5 psi of boost running VP C16 fuel. To get this level of power the R1K package will feature custom manifolds, and a pair of big Garret watercooled turbochargers fitted with external wastegates. Switzer are also quick to point out that this tune is not right on the ragged edge. Conservative timing and boost settings are deliberately chosen for durability.

Hot on the heels of the R1K update, SP Engineering announced that their SPE1000 build has bumped its head against the limit of it’s ID 1000cc injectors at 997awhp (886 lb/ft of torque). They ran 30psi of boost for the pull on C16 fuel. ID 2000cc injectors are due to be fitted shortly to sort that and back on the dyno to make it an official round 1000awhp … or more…

So yes, it’s huge news and it won’t stop coming any time soon with AMS set to have their own 1000whp Alpha GT-R demons on the dyno in the not too distant future.

Right now it’s a little too close to call who will win down at the track and that really is where the where the winner will be decided. Can’t wait to see it!

Tommy Kaira High Performance Titan Big Throttle Bodies for Nissan GT-R

September 15, 2010 Comments off

Tommy Kaira has quietly launched their latest performance product, a set of upgraded throttle bodies for the Nissan GT-R. The Tommy Kaira units offer upgraded airflow by improving the OEM throttle bodies in several ways.

Firstly they have honed and polished the throttle body interior. The net result is a 1.5mm enlarged opening with a smooth surface to reduce turbulence around the interior.

Secondly they’ve redesigned the butterfly from scratch. This titanium replacement butterfly reduces the need for the clunky OEM pivot so air flows more smoothly again through the throttle.

All up Tommy Kaira claim more than 20% improved airflow through these with of course improvements to engine response that come along with it.

Pricing begins around the 117,600 yen mark per set provided you send your OEM throttles in. Without the exchange, expect to part with 243,600 yen for a set.

AMS Nissan GT-R Alpha Performance Upgrade Packages

September 13, 2010 Comments off

Looks like AMS Performance are readying a range of new performance packages for the Nissan GT-R under their new Alpha brand. The Alpha 6 and 9 packages are already available on their website along with a new video showing just what the Alpha 9 is capable of on pump gas.

Featured in the video below is the Alpha 9 package described by AMS as such:

The AMS Alpha 9 package for your Nissan GTR offers the most reliable bolt-on horse power available and we have the 9 second time slips to back it up. This package offers stock-like turbo spool up while boosting power output to an astounding 900 horsepower on race gas and 800 on pump gas.

That pump gas horsepower is good to get you 10.1 @ 138 down the quarter mile. That’s a confirmed 9 sec quarter on race gas. This is all done while maintaining the OEM finish and using only the best quality parts.

Super Taikyu 2010: Debut for Team Daishin’s NISMO GT-R RC ST1 Spec Nissan GT-R at Okayama

September 5, 2010 Comments off

NISMO have succeeded in spawning their first NISMO GT-R RC fielding race team with Team Daishin accepting the reins to their new R35 for the debut at round 5 of the Super Taikyu 2010 Championship series at Okayama Circuit, Japan.

The weekend started well for the team proving that the GT-R RC is already potent so early in it’s career as they managed to lap third fastest in qualifying and finishing third in the qualifying race behind the well established Petronas Z4M BMW cars.

Come race time however, hotter than expected track temperatures saw tire choices become critical. While the team was running strong in 3rd and 4th positions for most of the race, at lap 94 a front left tire blowout caused the GT-R to leave the track. While the team was able to make it back to pits, the time it cost was too great and they were forced to accept a 6th position in class finish (21st overall).

While the result is not the best the team is happy with the amount of data they collected on their debut outing and looks forward to the next round.
