MotorTrend: Godzilla Unleashed! 2009 Nissan GT-R Acceleration Test

March 31, 2008 Comments off

After recently putting the GT-R through it’s paces on a Dynojet inertia dyno Motor Trend have taken it to El Toro Marine Air Station’s flat dry runway to test the car’s acceleration.

After SAE weather correction (which in this case was applied slowing the car down) the GT-R managed a 3.2sec 0-60mph and a 11.6 sec @ 120 mph 1/4 mile time. Heroic figures indeed. They did find flaws in this supercar though but you’ll want to read the entire article (linked below) to find out what they are and what they mean to you.

Edmunds: 2009 Nissan GT-R Road Trip – Part 4

Comments off

Well it’s time to wrapup the US road trip which we’ve been following for the past week. Edmunds have reached their final destination of Reno Nevada and handed in their keys (or keyfob more accurately) but not without having a lot of fun first.

We mentioned in our last post that Edmunds had gotten quite a bit of time with the car at Miller Motorsports park. Indeed they turned at least “20 laps” of the two mile 10 turn west loop circuit. Managing a Ford GT rivalling 1.44 laptime by an unfamiliar driver. Check out a bit of the action in their video below:

Following that and their trip to the salt flats, Edmunds finished up their road trip taking Highway 50 to Reno. The good news at the end is that Edmunds has decided to add a new GT-R to their fleet and perform a one year test on the car with weekly updates. We’ll be subscribed for that.

Overall what did Edmunds Inside line think of the GT-R? This quote sums it up:

we did prove one thing: The 2009 Nissan GT-R is an incredible car. Fast, comfortable (relatively) and dead reliable. Nissan’s new supercar is a real workhorse that can be driven to work, on the racetrack or across the country. And it likes to go fast.

Sunline Exhaust for GTC’s GT-R

March 30, 2008 Comments off

Ben Linney has stepped on the very slippery slope of spending big money on his GT-R already and has a magnificent Sunline GTspecEX Titanium exhaust on the way from Japan. He put up some photos on the GT-R UK forums for us to drool over until it arrives in the UK.

He also received some HKS Kansai racing tow hooks which we hope he never needs to use and some HKS Kansai lowering seat rails.

Update Link: One more image from Sunline – a close up of the exhaust tip

GTRBlog.com – Datacenter Move Completed!

Comments off

Apologies for any downtime you experienced (if any) over the past 24hrs but GTRBlog.com had seriously outgrown our prior shared web host and something had to be done! So we did it! Here we are now on a dedicated server in a serious data center in Dallas, Texas that wont fall over every time someone trips over a cat5 cable.

The server move was seamless but unfortunately DNS doesn’t play that game so outages may have occured while the DNS change propogated worldwide.

From here on in let’s all bathe in the warm glow of stability, redundancy and bandwidth. Er… ok let’s just appreciate it fondly from a distance then shall we.

Thanks to our loyal readers for who sent me emails regarding this outage!

Envy Imports – Sydney, Australia: R35 GT-R Preview

March 29, 2008 Comments off

Envy Imports have long been keeping it under their hat that their R35 Nissan GT-R was bound for Australia but yesterday they were finally able to get their hands on it.

After prying it away from the nations customs and quarantine bureaucrats who, understandably, wanted to keep it for themselves GTRBlog.com joined Herman Urriola director of Envy Imports at their workshop in Brookvale for a look at their new acquisition.

Looking intimidating in titanium, the first we’ve seen of this colour in Australia, this premium edition GT-R is 100% Japanese spec. Imported under the low volume new vehicle import scheme, Envy Imports now embark on the process of ensuring compliance against a long list of Australia design regulations before they can road register it.

The good news is that it’s almost certain that we will see this car and others like it on the road well before the official Nissan release date. A good thing especially for Nissan Australia who gets the brand awareness without needing to lift a finger, despite the fuss they are creating over it.

Thanks to Herman and Richard for assisting with the photo shoot.
