Tommy Kaira High Performance Titan Big Throttle Bodies for Nissan GT-R

September 15th, 2010

Tommy Kaira has quietly launched their latest performance product, a set of upgraded throttle bodies for the Nissan GT-R. The Tommy Kaira units offer upgraded airflow by improving the OEM throttle bodies in several ways.

Firstly they have honed and polished the throttle body interior. The net result is a 1.5mm enlarged opening with a smooth surface to reduce turbulence around the interior.

Secondly they’ve redesigned the butterfly from scratch. This titanium replacement butterfly reduces the need for the clunky OEM pivot so air flows more smoothly again through the throttle.

All up Tommy Kaira claim more than 20% improved airflow through these with of course improvements to engine response that come along with it.

Pricing begins around the 117,600 yen mark per set provided you send your OEM throttles in. Without the exchange, expect to part with 243,600 yen for a set.

AMS Release Upgraded Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensors for Nissan GT-R

September 1st, 2010

As time goes by and big power GT-Rs get more plentiful more and more tuners are running into the same old pesky problems. In fact, whenever you see horsepower at these levels this problem tends to rear it’s head. That is flaky air flow sensors, air flow sensors that lack resolution or airflow sensors that just max out way earlier than needed.

To put this problem to bed AMS have tackled it head on;

The AMS Nissan GT-R upgraded MAF sensor was designed to eliminate the driveabilty problems with big horsepower GT-R’s. As with any GT-R, once you start to reach the 800HP threshold, driveablity problems occur. AMS diagnosed these issues and quickly sorted out a solution. Thanks to our tuner Chris Black, we now have a MAF sensor capable of handling big power and big amounts of air. Kiss your P0700 codes goodbye! Stop dealing with rough driveablity problems if you are running Greddy 20G’s, big bolt-on turbos or full turbo kits. These Mass Air Flow Sensors are designed and calibrated to handle big power!

These babies are good to handle airflow levels up to 1200bhp and are retailing for $999.95. Hit up the AMS website linked below for the full details…

GTC 750R Demo Car Shows Off GTC’s New Parts Lineup

July 10th, 2010

UK based tuner GTC Racing has been making a great name for itself with GT-R tuning and original parts since launch and the latest iteration of the combined knowledge and hardware is the GTC750R GT-R. The team have put it through it’s paces on the dyno and on the track. The result is a GT-R that is hypercar quick with looks to match.

The car features a lengthy list of modifications with some of the highlights being:

  • GTC 90mm Titan Exhaust with GTC Titan 90mm Y-Pipe
  • GTC 80 mm Zircotech coated de-cat front pipes
  • Hybid IHI/Garret GT30 ball bearing turbos
  • Garret Wastegate Actuators
  • 1000cc ID Injectors
  • GTC 80mm MAF pipes (prototypes) – w/ HPX MAF sensors
  • Twin 255 lt fuel pumps w/ upgraded fuel lines
  • GTC Marston Core Intercooler w/80mm hard pipe kit (no BOVs)
  • GTC Radiator
  • GTC 14 plate clutch system & steel plates & shims
  • Prototype gearbox cooler (water type)
  • Alloy extended gearbox oil pan
  • Alloy engine sump
  • COBB Tuning AccessPORT w/GTC custom tune

With those mods, and a good driver, it reeled off a 10.3 @ 139 mph during it’s shake down testing. The guys report that they have cracked the GT-R’s infamous launch control systems and can now raise the ECM’s launch rev limit to wherever is most optimal. Given that, we expect to see an interesting few runs coming up soon both from GTC and from abroad.

For more information on the latest range of GTC products for the GT-R, head over to the GTC-R website, give them a call or check out their discussion thread over on the NAGTROC forums.

TopSecret Release Carbon Bumper Air Intake Ducts for Nissan GT-R

July 6th, 2010

Top Secret have launched a new product this week designed to improve cooling airflow to the intercooler / radiator. The GT-R’s front end, while aerodynamic, does leave something to be desired in the use of the surface area to great cooling effect. Understandably so too since Nissan had to fit a bumper reinforcement in there somewhere.

The aftermarket doesn’t need to be concerned with bumper reinforcement however so with some modification this bumper duct will direct air straight onto your cooling systems.

Priced at 65,100 yen for the half carbon version or 79,800 for the full carbon version, you can get in touch with your local Top Secret distributor for more info…

Blitz Intercooler and Suction Kit for Nissan GT-R Now Available

May 29th, 2010

We got our first look at the new Blitz intercooler all the way back in January at Tokyo AutoSalon. It’s a smart looking mild upgrade for the stock intercooler units which goes for the joined core look. That core is 260mm high 532mm wide and 100mm thick so it’s a decent step in the right direction while not being over the top and radiator airflow restricting. The big change since January is that it’s now buyable as of last week. The price hasn’t changed and it’s still set at the 260,400 yen mark.

Something we couldn’t get a look at in January though, but we’re told about, is the new Blitz Suction Kit for Nissan GT-R. These cast, polished aluminum items reduce the internal airflow resistance and improve air intake efficiency. They increase the internal diameter by 10mm on the turbo compressor side and also improve the air filter side by 10mm. They come with silicon hose joiners as standard and are priced at the 136,500 yen mark in Japan.

GReddy Trust Intercooler Spec-R HG T29 Kit for Nissan GT-R

May 1st, 2010

GReddy have officially released and priced their latest offering in the cooling arena for the Nissan GT-R, their Spec-R HG T29 Intercooler Kit. The kit comes in two forms, the full kit and the conversion kit and is designed to replace not only your OEM intercoolers with a joined core crossover type intercooler but much of your intake and intercooler piping as well.

The full kit features polished hard piping kit to support Trust pod filters in replacement of the OEM airboxes, polished hard piping kit to replace the intercooler piping, silicon host joiners, GReddy blow off valves and other minor but very important items such as brackets and hoses. The full kit retails at 388,500 yen in Japan.

The conversion kit assumes you already have the Trust intake piping kit so removes the intake pipes and the blow off valves. It saves a little money and goes for around 312,900 yen in Japan.

With either kit, you’re crossing the airflow over so you should need to take into account that the airflow sensed by the left MAF (mass airflow sensor) will now be fed to the ECU to control the RIGHT throttle. So most people recommend extending the MAF wiring harness to correct this when using this type of intercooler. I do not see a mention of that being included in either of these kits so it’s something to be aware of.

Forge Motorsport Release Intercooler Upgrade for Nissan GT-R

January 22nd, 2010

Forge Motorsports have finally released their anticipated intercooler upgrade kit for the Nissan GT-R. The upgrade turns the tables on the conventional GT-R intercooler design. Instead of two cores side by side this uses one long tube and fin core above another in a single long unit. The core size is 740mmx250mmx100mm. The benefits of this design are a greater overall volume and reduced pressure loss versus the standard intercooler. Overall the whole setup actually works out lighter than standard also with around 0.9kg shaved off the cooler and pipework setup.

In terms of performance improvement, Forge Motorsports noticed more area under the curve when dynoing this against a stock intercooler with improved cooling as well. With the standard cooler air intake temps were around the 43 degree C mark, with the Forge Motorsport cooler this dropped to 32 degrees C.

Everything you need for installation is included in the kit at just £1,800 GBP plus shipping. For UK residents that price is minus VAT.

Thanks to Ben @ GTC-R for the tip off.

Tomei Poncam Camshafts for Nissan GT-R

January 6th, 2010

After just the right amount of anticipation, Tomei has joined the Nissan GT-R camshaft party with their own range of upgrades under the Poncam brand. Well respected in the tuning world forever, the Poncams are a drop in replacement for the standard items.

On the intake side, the Poncams increase duration to 256° and lift to 10.2mm with a initial lobe center angle of 124°. On the exhaust side the cams feature a 264° duration and 10.5mm of lift. Initial lobe center angle on the exhaust side is 115°. In comparison stock ones are 238°, 9.56mm intake and 248°, 9.88mm exhaust.

For now, there’s just one spec of Poncams for the VR38DETT, but at 134,400 yen in Japan for the full set they’re priced competitively. You can also opt for just the in or ex set for 67,200 yen a pop.

Tomei have a big showing planned for Tokyo AutoSalon 2010 which begins later this month (15th – 17th Jan) so we’ll be sure to snap a few photos of the cams in the flesh.
