AMS Alpha 10 Nissan GT-R Sets New R35 Quarter Mile Record

October 6th, 2010

Something pretty exciting is happening over in Chicago lately. The first of the AMS Alpha-10 Package fitted GT-Rs is making it’s track debut trying to set new standards for ultra fast GT-Rs.

In it’s first outing, this complete street trim GT-R reeled off a 9.523 @ 150.62 mph. Well enough to get kicked off the track for not having a full cage, hell it’s quick enough not to technically be allowed near a drag strip without a parachute but even that wasn’t quick enough.

With some obvious smooth talking the guys were able to get one last run in and backed it up with an even more amazing 9.33 @ 153 mph!! The car made around 900awhp on AMS‘ dyno before the run.

The amount of mind bending acceleration generated by this car is difficult to grasp, AMS put together the above teaser video showing just the gauges to give you an idea but it’s hard to compute.

What’s crazier still is the Alpha GT-R range doesn’t stop here, a bigger, faster, more powerful Alpha-12 GT-R is still in the works. An 8 second club is in sight from here…

Huge congrats to Tim, the owner and big ups to AMS and Sheptrans for their work on these behemoths.

JUN Carbon Exhaust Ducts for Nissan GT-R

September 18th, 2010

JUN has deviated a little from their hardcore engine upgrades parts range to include this new Carbon Exhaust Duct in their GT-R lineup. These carbon exhaust tip surrounds will liven up your GT-R’s rear end for about 29,400 yen in Japan.

Possibly more interesting in the release than the parts themselves is that JUN seems to have a bright yellow R35 GT-R happening. Is this the return of the fabled JUN Hyper Lemon 1000hp GT-R in R35 format? We’d like to think so…

AMS Performance 1000hp GT-R Build: Ãœber Cast Manifold Prototypes

May 12th, 2010

The day has come in the process of building the AMS cast manifolds where they receive the prototype manifolds back from the casting shop. While these aren’t the exact final finish of the end product on the outside, the inside’s what matters and the guys say it’s top notch.

With these babies they’ll be able to re-install the engine build the remaining pieces of the kit and even get started on the tuning process.

AMS Performance 1000hp GT-R Build: AMS Carbon Roof Premiers

April 18th, 2010

Work continues on Chuck’s GT-R and while we wait patiently for the gory details on the hardware they’ll be using to extract 1,000 ponies from his VR38 they’ve given us an update on some of the body lightening they plan on doing.

In this update you can see while there’s probably more than one way to skin a cat there’s only one way to skin a GT-R and it’s painful to watch. Off with Chuck’s roof for some proper roll cage installation and while it’s off what better time to design a new carbon roof skin replacement. So that’s what they guys at AMS Performance
did.

The AMS R35 GT-R Carbon Fiber Roof shaves weight from the highest point of your car without sacrificing structural integrity. By lowering the cars center of gravity, handling is improved along with shedding unnecessary weight. The AMS Carbon Fiber Roof weighs only 7 pounds and even allows you to retain the factory headliner! This incredible looking roof adds performance to your race car, style to your show car and is perfectly at home on your street car.

Features

  • 100% 2×2 weave carbon fiber
  • Saves 9lbs over the OEM roof
  • OEM fitment
  • Allows for factory headliner

Looks very slick and you won’t believe the price; AMS are saying this bad boy will sell for just $2,500 plus shipping. Very nice and bound to be popular. Check out their website for more info, linked below.

AMS Performance 1000hp GT-R Build Update

January 23rd, 2010

The build up of this monster Godzilla is not being rushed in any way. AMS have gained their solid reputation from doing things right and so, in that tradition here’s their progress so far.

Last update we showed you how they used a co-ordinate mapping machine to map the inside of the GT-R engine bay. This was done so they could correctly size the turbo, manifold, wastegate and downpipe configuration to completely maximise the available space. Since then they have spent a lot of time at the CAD software designing how the manifolds will meet all of their design goals like:

  • Completely equal length
  • Port matched
  • Smooth transitions
  • Ease of manifold bolt access
  • Cast in 304 stainless steel

They finished their preliminary design earlier this month and so it was time to move to the fitment testing part of the project. AMS use a plastic composite mock up of the complete part. This is printed in a sophisticated 3D printer by building up layer upon layer of plastic material to slowly build out a exact size replica part within a very tight tolerance.

Once out of the printer they can actually bolt this up to the car to ensure their design matches reality and that it truly will fit into the car. This is the next steps. As you can see in these photos it’s already bolted up to the VR38, next step is to drop the motor in the car and check if the custom heat shields bolt up as planned.

If everything checks out, AMS can organize to have the part cast in stainless steel. Once that is done then they’ll have the moulds for production for other customer cars.

AMS Performance 1000hp GT-R Build High Tech Introduction

December 16th, 2009

Well you may know by now that AMS has taken on the task of building Chuck H from NAGTROC’s Nissan GT-R into something of a beast. A Sen-bariki no bakemono if you will indulge me.

Well by now they’ve jumped right into the build and have already dropped the well loved but much abused original VR38 out of the engine bay. While it’s out they’ve gone completely high tech using a Stinger CMM (Co-ordinate Measuring Machine) to digitize the inside of the engine bay and the dimensions of the engine. With this data they can layout the stonking great turbos they’ll need to shoehorn in on a simulated GT-R before they need to start mocking up parts in fabrication.

Just another example of how you do things right the first time and how serious AMS are about the end product being perfect.

Check out the video but don’t forget you can follow the progress (with loads more pics) on AMS’s blog and get pinged on updates on their Twitter!

Gruppe-S / Dynamic AutoSports Sleeve VR38 for Monster GT-R Engine Build

December 12th, 2009

gtrblog-sema-hankook-111

Planning to be in the running for one of the toughest GT-R engine builds to date, Gruppe-S has been working with Darton on a set of sleeves that should see them to 1000hp without trouble.

You may recall that we mentioned their stroked VR38 ideas after we first heard about them at SEMA this year. Well with any luck, this block right here will be the first VR43DETT sleeved and ready to go. Yep that’s 4.3 litres of displacement if all goes as planned.

There’s a lot more too it than just a block of course and they guys at Gruppe-S have also teamed up with JE Pistons to create a fully billet piston for the VR38. We’ll keep you updated as more details come to hand.

AMS Set Sights on 1000hp Extreme Nissan GT-R

November 25th, 2009

ams-100hp-001

You’ll have most certainly heard a lot about AMS’s work on the Nissan GT-R over here on GTRBlog, on NAGTROC, at time attack events, at SEMA, at meets and from owners themselves. They’ve already built some epic GT-Rs and taken a few records along the way such as the pump gas quarter mile record.

You may also know them from their other builds like their 1142awhp Evo-VIII that runs mid 8’s or their time attack Evo-X build that is taking out it’s own horsepower records and first places at events such as the Redline Time Attack in the tough highly competitive unlimited AWD and modified classes.

It’s easy to see that these guys know their business well and envision just how they will take the GT-R to the next level on what will be their most epic GT-R project to date.

The base for the build is also well known to readers, it is well known as John Reese’s ex drag record breaking black GT-R. First to drop into the mid-10 second quarter mile bracket it was also the first to bust a gearbox spectacularly on camera.

Now in the hands of NAGTROC co-founder Chuck H the GT-R has already been transported to AMS’s headquarters to begin the teardown for the build.

While much attention will be paid to breaking into the four digit horsepower arena, the known weak points of the gearbox and drivetrain will not be ignored. AMS are not saying exactly what’s planned yet but we’re excited to hear that a great deal will be done in that space. Something that will benefit a lot of other GT-R owners in the long run.

Stay tuned to GTRBlog and NAGTROC to see how the build progresses over time!
