AMS Performance: AMS Alpha12 GT-R Updates

April 8th, 2011

It’s been an interesting couple of months for the AMS Performance crew. The culmination of a lot of hard work has seen the AMS Alpha 12 GT-R see a lot of results, especially in Texas. The TX2K11 Nationals event in March saw the Alpha 12 GT-R owned by Tim Sander’s show off it’s muscle to take the first place in the Dyno Comp GT-R Class with 1069 awhp.

In the days that followed they continued to push the GT-R to the limits and at the drag strip came away with another new record – a 9.1 @ 159mph pass. Despite the tune not being fully ironed out the Alpha 12 is still the quickest GT-R around.

There’s quite a lot of other GT-R happenings over at AMS’s blog and there’s more records lined up to fall soon. Two Alpha 12 GT-Rs are getting set to run the Moscow Unlimited event coming up in September. This year it seems the GT-R crowd wont be satisfied with second place in Moscow as it was in 2010.

Looking forward to hearing more as the Alpha12 gets closer to fully tuned. You can find out more from AMS at the links below!

AMS Alpha GT-Rs In Record Breaking Territory Again: 9.1 @ 163 mph and More

October 22nd, 2010

Forget everything you read about Nissan GT-R quarter mile records because AMS just went and rewrote the book. They not only just smashed their own quarter mile ET record but they blew up the current Mph record as well.

With time to tweak the car since the first 9.33 second outing back in early October the guys took the car back to the track and managed a best time of 9.192 at 163.12 mph. Over two tenths quicker and a full 10 mph faster down the strip than their previous Alpha-10 best time. A serious improvement and seriously closer to 8 seconds.

Not content with just setting the outright quarter mile records all in one day they also went on to break the pump gas R35 quarter mile record in the Alpha-9 package GT-R. The Alpha-9 GT-R is the Nissan GT-R to dip into the 9’s on pump gas with a 9.95 ET @ 141.01 mph.

One of the best things about the AMS’s Alpha GT-Rs isn’t related to how damn fast they are but how streetable they remain with all that grunt under the hood. After running 9’s in the Alpha-9 the guys will begin an epic cross USA roadtrip beginning in Chicago, driving through Colorado and Nevada and ending up in SoCal. Over 2,000 miles of cross country driving with a full writeup expected. Check the video below for a taste of the Alpha-10’s daily drivability…

AMS Nissan GT-R Alpha 10 Package

Acceleration that leaves you breathless. Speed like nothing you have experienced. A power package that will leave any Super Car in its wake.

Over Twice The Horsepower Of A Stock GT-R Yet Mild Mannered For Daily Driving

The AMS Alpha 10 package for the Nissan GT-R combines the stock like driveablity of the Nissan GT-R with 1100+ horsepower. Typically power like this comes at the cost of reliability and comfort. That is not the case with the Alpha 10 as every aspect of this package was fine tuned to allow for a true Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Your GT-R will go from mild mannered and streetable one moment to white knuckled power the next.

AMS Alpha 10 Nissan GT-R Sets New R35 Quarter Mile Record

October 6th, 2010

Something pretty exciting is happening over in Chicago lately. The first of the AMS Alpha-10 Package fitted GT-Rs is making it’s track debut trying to set new standards for ultra fast GT-Rs.

In it’s first outing, this complete street trim GT-R reeled off a 9.523 @ 150.62 mph. Well enough to get kicked off the track for not having a full cage, hell it’s quick enough not to technically be allowed near a drag strip without a parachute but even that wasn’t quick enough.

With some obvious smooth talking the guys were able to get one last run in and backed it up with an even more amazing 9.33 @ 153 mph!! The car made around 900awhp on AMS‘ dyno before the run.

The amount of mind bending acceleration generated by this car is difficult to grasp, AMS put together the above teaser video showing just the gauges to give you an idea but it’s hard to compute.

What’s crazier still is the Alpha GT-R range doesn’t stop here, a bigger, faster, more powerful Alpha-12 GT-R is still in the works. An 8 second club is in sight from here…

Huge congrats to Tim, the owner and big ups to AMS and Sheptrans for their work on these behemoths.

AMS Release Upgraded Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensors for Nissan GT-R

September 1st, 2010

As time goes by and big power GT-Rs get more plentiful more and more tuners are running into the same old pesky problems. In fact, whenever you see horsepower at these levels this problem tends to rear it’s head. That is flaky air flow sensors, air flow sensors that lack resolution or airflow sensors that just max out way earlier than needed.

To put this problem to bed AMS have tackled it head on;

The AMS Nissan GT-R upgraded MAF sensor was designed to eliminate the driveabilty problems with big horsepower GT-R’s. As with any GT-R, once you start to reach the 800HP threshold, driveablity problems occur. AMS diagnosed these issues and quickly sorted out a solution. Thanks to our tuner Chris Black, we now have a MAF sensor capable of handling big power and big amounts of air. Kiss your P0700 codes goodbye! Stop dealing with rough driveablity problems if you are running Greddy 20G’s, big bolt-on turbos or full turbo kits. These Mass Air Flow Sensors are designed and calibrated to handle big power!

These babies are good to handle airflow levels up to 1200bhp and are retailing for $999.95. Hit up the AMS website linked below for the full details…

AMS Performance 1000hp GT-R Build: Turbo Kit Test Fit Time

June 5th, 2010

With the manifolds done and the engine still on the stands its the perfect time to test fit the turbo kit parts and to start building out all the custom length hoses, piping and mounting brackets they will need to bring it all together.

The AMS guys have also begun to build out the all important heat shield prototypes. With huge power comes a huge amount of heat and controlling that inside the tight GT-R engine bay will be key to the durability of this kit.

AMS Performance 1000hp GT-R Build: Ãœber Cast Manifold Prototypes

May 12th, 2010

The day has come in the process of building the AMS cast manifolds where they receive the prototype manifolds back from the casting shop. While these aren’t the exact final finish of the end product on the outside, the inside’s what matters and the guys say it’s top notch.

With these babies they’ll be able to re-install the engine build the remaining pieces of the kit and even get started on the tuning process.

AMS Performance 1000hp GT-R Build: AMS Carbon Roof Premiers

April 18th, 2010

Work continues on Chuck’s GT-R and while we wait patiently for the gory details on the hardware they’ll be using to extract 1,000 ponies from his VR38 they’ve given us an update on some of the body lightening they plan on doing.

In this update you can see while there’s probably more than one way to skin a cat there’s only one way to skin a GT-R and it’s painful to watch. Off with Chuck’s roof for some proper roll cage installation and while it’s off what better time to design a new carbon roof skin replacement. So that’s what they guys at AMS Performance
did.

The AMS R35 GT-R Carbon Fiber Roof shaves weight from the highest point of your car without sacrificing structural integrity. By lowering the cars center of gravity, handling is improved along with shedding unnecessary weight. The AMS Carbon Fiber Roof weighs only 7 pounds and even allows you to retain the factory headliner! This incredible looking roof adds performance to your race car, style to your show car and is perfectly at home on your street car.

Features

  • 100% 2×2 weave carbon fiber
  • Saves 9lbs over the OEM roof
  • OEM fitment
  • Allows for factory headliner

Looks very slick and you won’t believe the price; AMS are saying this bad boy will sell for just $2,500 plus shipping. Very nice and bound to be popular. Check out their website for more info, linked below.

AMS 9 Second Quarter Mile Passes – The Video

March 23rd, 2010

The much anticipated video from AMS. These guys are a class act, they even edited together the video professionally.

Without further ado I’ll let the video do the talking!

Update: Looks like the guys have posted up details and pricing of the AMS SR850 Package that power’s this 9 second GT-R.

The AMS SR850 package for your Nissan GTR offers the most reliable bolt-on horse power available. This package was built off our successful SR750 program and offers stock-like turbo spool up while boosting power output to an astounding 850 horsepower on race gas and 750 on pump gas.

At the heart of the SR850 package are the custom AMS ball bearing turbochargers. Once installed these turbos appear stock yet provide enormous gains in horsepower and torque throughout the entire rev-range WITHOUT added turbo lag! It is a win/win situation that is unheard of industry provided by the latest in turbo technology.

AMS Smash The 9 Second Barrier at TX2K10

March 21st, 2010

After beating out all the other competitors in the dyno competition, AMS have driven this SR850 tuned R35 GT-R to a worlds first 9 second ET at Lonestar Motorsports Park on their first run of the day!

They went on to run a string of 9 second passes with the best ET being 9.89 @ 145 even after hitting the rev limiter in second. The best mph of the day was 146.96 mph which you can see in the timeslip in the gallery below.

To get there, the car runs an AMS SR850 upgrade package which includes:

  • AMS upgraded bolt on turbo’s
  • Upgraded actuators
  • AMS 90mm downpipes
  • AMS 90mm Resonated midpipe
  • AMS 90mm exhaust
  • AMS Front mount intercooler
  • AMS 3″ intercooler piping
  • HKS bov’s
  • AMS Large MAF intake pipes
  • AMS fuel System upgrade
  • Cobb AccessPORT
  • AMS Custom Race gas map (unleaded 109 octane Race gas)

With these mods the car is putting 765awhp and 738 lbft of torque to the ground. Impressive stuff and big big numbers from bolt on upgraded turbos. What will we see when AMS’s custom cast manifolds and even bigger turbos get bolted up to Chuck’s car?

Congratulations to Frank who owns the world’s first 9 second GT-R and to AMS who built it!

Cheers to Chuck for the heads up on this. Also note, these pics are from previous runs.
