Well we know the GT-R dominates but these videos go some way to explain why the HSV-10 wasn’t so competitive on the weekend. It never helps to have three of your brand new race cars out on lap 10 in an absolutely insane crash at turn one.
Fortunately it looks like everyone was able to walk away, sore looking but ok.
This wasn’t the only drama of the day and you can watch the highlights of the entire race in the video below including a four car incident in the GT300 class as the rain began to sprinkle down.
That’s followed almost immediately with the race leader and pole position starter Weider HSV-10 that goes off the slippery track losing a lot of positions in the process.
Only a few turns later and the eventual race winner HIS ADVAN GT-R also overruns a turn coming onto the straight.
All this is only by lap TWO by the way. You’ll have to watch the whole thing for the rest of the nail biting suspense. Too bad I already spoiled the ending for you.
SuperGT 2009 is over and with it is the long career of the GT500 Honda NSX that was a staple of the series for so long. In it’s place, Honda have ressurected the cancelled NSX replacement, and sought a rule exemption to do so, for the 2010 season.
The GT500 class HSV-10 GT will debut in the first race of 2010 but was captured here testing at Suzuka circuit in Japan.
It certainly looks like Honda are well into the development on this car and that it’s an attractive beast. Should be an exciting season opener in March 2010 as the GT-R fights off the newcomer!
COBB are choosing a fine time to launch a new reasonably priced GT-R product, just in time for Christmas? Maybe it wont make it in time to find it’s way under your tree this year but check it out.
This full silicon hose and clamp kit does away with your stock plastic and rubber hoses. The strong 4-ply and 5-ply silicon items are far more durable, heat resistant and resistant to expansion under boost than the OEM type so makes a sensible upgrade.
The clamps included are the T-bolt kind and are superior to the standard hose clamps albeit costlier, probably why OEMs stick with the vanilla flavor. Some may have seen from experience though that with more power than stock the GT-R likes to pop off an intake pipe occasionally.
Available in blue and black colors, the set retails at $695.
While you’re here, if you haven’t seen it yet, why not check out the interview with Trey Cobb at the Seibon booth from SEMA earlier this year embedded below.
Just got the heads up from STILLEN on these being posted to Youtube. Some really great videos from the action at Targa Newfoundland 2009. The guys finished first in the Modern Class in the rally which has some suprisingly large number of suburban stages. In the wet they seem pretty hairy.
No major problems to report as the team STILLEN GT-R held up great through the 7 stages of Leg 2 in the 2009 Targa Newfoundland. The schedule called for 8 stages originally but one was canceled. The CV boot repair is still holding up to punishment and has not leaked.
Steve has managed to pilot every stage without penalty except for the last of the day where they actually caught up to the competitor in front. The inability to pass caused them to be held up and incur a 6 second penalty for the stage.
The GOTO:Racing Nissan GT-R entered into a NASA Time Trials event in Super Unlimited category over the weekend and came away with a solid win. As you can see in the videos, it was a tough battle with one quick Mustang rumored to be in the 700hp range running 335 wide slicks all round. During the same outing they also managed to take the Thunderhill Time Trial lap record.
Overall the guys seem really happy about the car’s performance but recognize some areas they can improve on. Such events are perfect for exactly this reason, data gathering and planning.
After just completing the engineering and testing phase of the new AAM 800hp turbo upgrades for the Nissan GT-R the guys have announced they made 659 hp at the wheels on just 19psi of boost on pump gas! Youch that’s a lot of power. What’s more is that the guys had only just begun to scratch the surface of the potential here and are expecting 700awhp by the time they’re done.
Fitted to the first AAM 800hp Turbo Upgrade Nissan GT-R was the following supporting modifications:
Note that AAM actually opted to go for high-flow catalytic converters instead of a straight through exhaust like many would. Interesting choice and it shows their cat’s design is solid for sure.
Next up from AAM is a competition intercooler setup as the stockers just aren’t cutting it at 700hp and I’m not surprised!
Preview video of the Steve Millen’s Targa Newfoundland race car Nissan GT-R in trademark orange with Password:JDM dry carbon aplenty. Sounds and goes very nicely it seems… Hit the HD button!
Don’t forget to check out the Road & Track video website devoted to this car, it’s recently had an update regarding the paint and carbon parts. Hit it up at this link.
Update: Snagged a few pics off the STILLEN blog of the car at a recent meetup.
Seems like the big power GT-R scene has matured somewhat of late and quarter mile times are both falling and requiring less experimentation to get there. The AMS sponsored GT-R in the video above has run a 10.69 @ 132 mph on 93 octane gas making it the fastest run on pump gas according to AMS. What’s more is the list of modifications is quite brief and it was done on the standard Bridgestone runflat tires.
So what goes into an AMS built tuned mid 10′s on stock tires Nissan GT-R? Here’s the modifications list:
