Samurai Speed GT-R Not Dead, Minor Damage Afterall
The “big bang”, everyone’s heard about someone who’s done it, or done it themselves, launched their highly tuned car down the drag strip and bang. Sometimes it’s an engine, sometimes it’s a drive shaft, it’s always sad though and you never get to drive the car home. The long wait for a truck and the mental calculations that don’t stop about what exactly failed and how many thousands of bucks is it going to take to fix.
When Samurai Speed headed out to the track on Wednesday night they were able to run consistently in the 10.5′s but it wasn’t enough. On the last run of the night they decided to go all out, a 150 shot of nitrous was rigged and it was on.
Shortly after launch there was a bang and the worst was feared, the car was trucked back to Samurai Speed’s workshop for inspection and if needed, tear down.
Good news though, after inspection the engine lives on in good health, the big bang heard after launch was the sound of the flywheel housing being destroyed by the engines torque. A new housing has been ordered from Nissan. Other minor damage was caused to the exhaust but John from Samurai Speed reckons for less than $1,800 in parts the car will be back on the road.

Whats the point ?? John can probably afford a new housing every week but for normal people like us?? Its too much. A better idea would be to buy/manufacture a housing that can withstand so much torque. Leading tuner companies have made so many different parts for the GTR then why not this? C’mon guys lets do this.
BTW John your the best! If we’ll ever see a sub 10 sec. time it’ll be from you!
SamuraiSpeed FTW BABY
Oh yea one more thing
I just read about SPI’s R35 and HPE’s R35 both making more HP than this GTR
707 AWHP and 813 AWHP respectively. And I got 2 questions.
Q1) How come they havent blown there housing yet?
Q2) How come they havent got to 10.5s yet? I know HPE has recorded a 10.87
Whats so different about SamuraiSpeeds setup? haha
hmmm maybe diffrent track conditions or better strip ,csr speed wasnt fast snd time was low but lots and lots of grip
@Zern
Zern, with all due respect, you are ill informed about SPI’s GTR set up. The car is set up for ROAD RACING, not drag racing. Car makes 600 AWTQ, NOT 813.
SPI has said over and over that the car is not intended for drag racing. and quite honestly it will not be used for drag racing, I know this because I am the driver.
FYI car ran 11.32 @ 132 MPH while running pump gas and 16-18 Psi.NO LC, Auto mode and 38 psi in tires, because we forgot to change it after coming back from Beaver run.
So far SPI has tuned 4 GTRs with same package as the original one, 800HP, 3 are road race cars, which are running extremely well, one is for intended for something else that I can’t comment on.
Anyway, please don’t compare GTR tuned by SPI to Samurai Speed, they are completely different animals.
All the best to Samurai Speed.
Samurai Speed is the best on the drag strip. And although other GTR’s make over 600hp they dont get it to the road like Samurai
