Nissan Offer Porsche Proof and Driving Tips

October 9th, 2008

In another statement by Nissan today they have officially gone on the record to defend the 7 minute 29 laptime recorded earlier in the year by the Nissan GT-R at Nurburgring. Porsche had recently called into doubt the laptime saying it could not replicate it in their own testing. Offering proof in the form of the actual tires and video footage from the laptime.

“It is clear that there are some important facts that were not accurately represented,”

Nissan go on to say that the GT-R used in the official laptime was actually at a disadvantage due to up to 50 kilograms of testing equipment along for the ride. Offering Porsche some driver training lessons if they want to give it another try.

Either way this is turning into a pretty big drama and I’ve got my popcorn ready. I’ve had the above photo of the tires for a few months I just haven’t really been bothered to post them due to the lousy phone cam photo quality. It wont settle the argument either way but maybe it’s enough to stoke the fire.

I find it funny that GTR was the only car that didn’t provide data on a video like rpm range and speed. Also Nissan is being a cry baby about it. Porsche had no problem driving their car to 7:32 but apparently they had a bad driver and Nissan offered driving lessons? Driving lessons for who? For company that has been in racing ever since they started making their cars? Wow ….

  4. October 10th, 2008 at 05:07 | #4

Obviously Porsche need a racing instructions…

  5. October 10th, 2008 at 08:55 | #5

Nissan a cry baby?? Porshe was the one that went out… bought a GT-R and claiming Nissan using diffferent tires and this and that because they couldnt come close to 7 min 29 sec. Whose the cry baby? So many people saying the GT-R makes anyone a good driver and you dont need much skill as the car practically drive itself. As you can see it’s not true! Takes a good driver to push the GT-R to its real limits.

Porsche started this and now Nissan became a cry baby? yeah right…that make loads of sense.

I’m sick of the ‘GTR drives itself’ bollocks. Ask any GTR owner how much of a handful they are once you start knocking on the limit door….

Granted at medium speed (100-180km/h) on public roads they are rock solid….but as soon as you go past that or enter a very twisty section or put it on a track…..you damn well better know how to drive otherwise it’ll be curtains.

No KEV Nissan have started this. Yes cry babies. If they would just let it go then it be like ok np. But they doing press after press like little girls trying to cry their point if there is any

lol Porsche needs to accept that they have reach the limit that they can achieve with a engine placed all the way in the back… Seriously…. doubting Nissan that they can achieve that is totally a sore loser move. For Nissan to fight back is exactly what they should do….

ps: GTRHATER makes no sense what so ever….

GTRHater, I think you are missing the point. Nissan is responding, quite rightly, to Porsche’s charge that they somehow cheated in recording a 7’29, when Porsche’s drivers couldn’t do the same. Nissan could lose respect and money if Porsche’s accusations are left alone and not disproven. For Porsche, in thier eyes, they’ve lost respect because they can’t seem to do what Nissan has: 7’29. The only way they can console themselves is to blame others.

For the record, I did 7’28″ in my stock 07 328i, but I did use slicks.

With a turbo and auto setup it wouldn’t be hard for Nissan to up the boost a little or mess with the shift points just for the ring. If Nissan wants to prove they did it just, take a visit to Porsche headquarters with their best driver and run the stock GTR that Porsche bought around the ‘Ring. If he can replicate the times, end of story. If he can’t replicate the times in a stock GTR then something shady was going on.

Does any one actually remember one feature that the GTR has?

The GPS system that lets the GTR go flat out?

In Japan when you arrive at a racing circuit, it releases the speed limiter so you can go flat out, does any one actually know if the Porsche GTR was unrestricted?

As im guessing the Nissan GTR would have been for testing?

the thee guy who is saying the nissan are crybabies, does he not get the point that it was Porsche who went and accused nissan of cheating and as someone else pointed out money and respect gets hurt when people do that. All nissan have done is argue back saying that here is our proof of what we feel is justifiably a ligitimate time. Plus they also point out that there was a whole bunch of timing gear added onto the weight of the car. I am looking forward to seeing how this one pans out. I for one would love to see porsche get proven wrong. not that i am biased in any way eh!

I hear what you are saying but if you know you did everything right you don’t have to prove anything which in this case as you can see is not like that. Also this counter video doesn’t really prove anything. You can not tell if the boost have been played around with. My only thing here is that Nissan is too heavy to archive these times in stock form. I don’t care if it has 1 gazillion computers on board and Godzilla lucky charms it will not bend rules of physics. If apple is falling down from the tree no matter how hard you wish otherwise it will not fall up in the sky. Physics. So the only thing would be left to do is Get Nissan team, get Porsche team, same day same time, Inspect both cars and let em at it. That’s the only way I will believe what Nissan is trying to prove. Otherwise no way.

Porsche can put slick tire on their GTR
do a 7.29 lap and prove their point
honestly, no matter 7.29 lap is true or not
    GTR is faster than 911

i dont thing that Nissan is gonna sell a car with the same setup suspention as it used to do the times on the Nurburgring. it would be kinda a uncomfortable car to drive, and the setup that Nissan would used on its every day GTR would be an avearage setup that would feel good on all the tracks in the country that the GTR was made for,

all of us who are in the racing world know that there isnt a universal suspention setup that you can take and make a track record on any track the world, as diffrent track Requrie diffrent suspention set-up
and with a a million and one suspention setup combos, its hardto go out there in one day and just guess the right one

what Nissan need to do is build a NUR-SPEC GTR like the did back in the day what the setup that they used to break the reccord.
